Narf asked:
"what's MAME?"

I think it stands for: Multi Arcade Machine Emulator.

You know those old Atari 2600 games and others from same time period.

Had lots of good games for the time...

I had to think about it for a while, but eventually I remembered: Sonic 2. Used to play it with a friend, in single-player mode. Normally in single player mode, Tails would just follow Sonic around and get killed a lot, but you could control Tails with the second controller (I don't think it was documented anywhere, I just tried it one day and it worked) This was spiff since Tails was essentially immortal, and you wouldn't lose rings or anything, except in the tunnel race thingy. Helped in Boss fights, and it was nice to play cooperatively. ^.^

Also miss every game of the Ultima series, tho Exult helps with Ultima 7 and U7 part 2. I'm an Ultima ****. ^.^; Waiting for a U8 emulator or fix. (Yes, I actually liked that one. =)

Whoever liked Paradroids: try this - http://www.javaonthebrain.com/java/noids/

I liked Tribes too but wasn't much good at it, tho thankfully didn't have too much trouble with cheaters. Of course now I want to go reinstall it after reading this thread.

I miss mining in Jumpgate. =( Easing a heavy ship up next to a tasty 'roid and mining away, was very peaceful and relaxing. ( http://www.jossh.com )

Miss a lot of other games too, more than I can remember.

Hey, anyone remember an old Microprose game called Hyperspeed / Lightspeed? Had you in control of a single person starship tasked with assembling the resources needed to establish a new colony world.

The games I mostly feel nostalgic about were the first games of a type I played. I can remember playing Red Alert for almost an entire weekend...
Ah, yeah. That game is still fun. I play multiplayer coop with my brother mostly. Bit of modding done too, with really cheap infantry, rapid-firing pillboxes and long range flame towers to chew them up. Choppers with super-slow nuclear-tipped missiles are quite cool too. One hit takes 'em down, they're very expensive, and the missile takes forever to land

I think about that one every now and then.

I used to play Lightspeed a whole lot, and always wanted to pick up Hyperspeed.

As was my way with RPGs, I eventually just hexed my way to all the components I needed in the savegame and played through the 'story' part of the game as a sort of superpower. But it was still a lot of fun. I like to give those a shot again. I may still have the Lightspeed diskettes around here somewhere.

By the way, I just picked up MoO2 from the $9.99 rack and poked at a few games. Still fun, but rather restrictive after so much Space Empires IV.
