Okay, I know I will be in hot water for this but it has to be said, because there are more than just one that thinks and feels this way. They are just too afraid to say anything, and rightfully so because if they do and do not conform to the majority they will be fried alive by that same majority. If you are Canadian you already spent $70 on that cd. Then an additional $60-$65 for the Gold. In total you have spent $130-$135 for a game. Well if you are American you can do the math and get about $100 or so. Is that not just a little high for a strat game? Is every penny REALLY worth it? You know, because basically the first Version has been rendered useless, effectively giving that first $70 to Malfador for nothing. Okay, so you got a bit of gaming enjoyment out of it and all that, but let's face it that physical cd you bought when you were all starry-eyed about the retail Space Empires is a lemon and one cannot help but feel a little cheated. Perhaps you were a betatester and then this is not a real issue because you didn't pay anything at all for it. This is about those of us who were duped into buying the first retail SE4 when we could have waited for the Gold (which by-the-way was promised to be an upgrade not a retail) and have spent half the money on it.

Now to part 2 - the frying of Tigbit begins, and let's all face the fact that it's not fair that a personal view be the result of a forum lynching. The Last time this was brought up in a forum environment the response was just that. Those of us who feel cheated still feel cheated and the reasons are just as valid as your reasons for feeling every penny was worth it. We do not feel the Gold Version was enough of an upgrade to warrant a retail release. Now the argument of Aaron needing to feed mouths comes in and this is understandable, but there is a little thing called honor that is no longer held valuable. When you promise something deliver it as promised. Don't change your mind halfway through because you see the opportunity to double your money.

*braces for the bLast*

And that's just my opinion.

Tigbit, you have every right to feel the way you do and I hope noone here bLasts you for expressing your opinion. I also know there are others that agree with you, but I also know that you and those that agree with you are a very small minority. It's simply not possible for any game to please everybody. Se4 does a better job of it then the vast majority of games on the market.

I think so, and so do many others. If you consider the amount of time you get out of the typical game SE4 is cheap. Even for those of you that unfortunatly get screwed on the shipping and exchange rates. Which by the way has nothing to do with Shrapnel. Other then the fact that they wont simply stick the game in an envelope and stamp it and hope it makes it to you.

Sure you can. I don't feel cheated, and neither do the large majority of people who express an opinion.

I was a beta tester for Gold and I bought and paid for my copy anyway, because I though the game was worth supporting.

Now if you get flamed you need to realize it's not because you are expressing an opinion. It's because you are making comments like this that are totally incorrect. You were not duped into anything, and you got everything you were promised. If the game didn't live up to your expectations it wasn't because you were mislead. It was because you had some unrealistic expectations.

Noone here is going to bLast you for stating your opinion. People will surely post in contradiction of it, but noone is going to flame you over it...

That is not entirely correct. Take Drones for an example. They were promised for the original SE4, but were never added until Gold. That, and they still do not work very well.

Compared to other things that cost $100, I think SE4 Gold is worth it to players who enjoy the game. And pre-gold was worth the what? $40? ... unless perhaps you bought it shortly before Gold came out. I think that's the only unfair part about it - the fact that some people may have paid more than others for the same thing. Malfador wouldn't have made all the great enhancements without charging for them, and I think Gold is about twice as good as the original. I think I've had more than twice as much fun and satisfying gameplay with the Gold edition than with the previous one. I'd much rather have a much better Version of the best space conquest game, than the pre-gold Version, and some other attempt at a new game.

If someone who enjoys the game thinks SE4 Gold isn't worth $100, then what must they think of most of the $50 offerings on retail shelves? (Ok, maybe a funny question, as I think they're almost all rip-offs, not because of the price, but because they're usually pretty boxes with worthless gameplay).

No, you are the one that is incorrect here. Drones were listed as something that was a planned feature. Nobody in any position of authority ever said, "Buy Se4 and we promise we will add drones and you won't have to pay extra for them." Every game has some features that get changed or dropped alltogether between planning and implementation for one reason or another.

If anyone has some particular feature that they think a game would be incomplete without they should wait until that feature is added before they buy the game, or find a different game. That's just common sense really.

Planned features, promised features, same difference. I never implied that MM ever went out and explicitly stated any of that.
