New Mod, no place to post!
Hey, I've finally gotten around to getting my first mod ready for release. I cannot upload it to the SEIV mod forum, since it exceeds the 30MB limit (it is 37MB). Where can I post this for everyone?
Here is a preview of the Intro screen .

Here are some of the races:

Ask Fyron of http://www.spaceempires.net to host it for you. His web site is one of the best out for the game right now.

And nice top left race portrait, Jesus in Space.
EDIT: That is a *****en splash screen. [ September 18, 2003, 07:53: Message edited by: Atrocities ]

I suggest you get WinRar and use its Best RAR compression method. This should shave 10+ MBs off of your filesize. You can add a measly 50 KB self-extracting module to the archive so that anyone can open it, and they do not need to have a non-crap archiving utility (WinZip being the mentioned crap ) such as WinRar, WinAce, etc..

Can you split it inro two zip files ? Some Mods with heavy graphics are organized this way, Babylon5 mod has one zip for races and another is "core" files.

However it gets done, I want to see it - especially those "spelljammer" ships! |

You can use WinRar (and 90% of archiving utilities) to create multi-part archive files, with custom-sized parts and all. But, I do not think WinZip can read them (and it certainly can not do this). This just splits the whole file into several smaller parts without having to pick yourself how to design them. Very convenient. Just one more reason to not use WinZip. |

Yes, WinRar is far superior to Zip. But nowdays, quality of the product is not as important as marketing.

Well, I tried Winrar, and it sure is impressive. It beat Winzip hands down, but still only got it to just a tad over 30MB.
So, I've split it up into two zip files instead. Uploading now. Will post a new topic when it's ready.

Did you try the best compression method?
Either way, make sure to use Winrar to make the archive, as it is far better at making Zips than WinZip.

You can make it into to 2 self-extracting RAR files as well, and still get abut 7 MBs of size shaved off. |
