Is there a thread somewhere answering the question "what's good about GalCiv"?

I read some discussion of it before, and decided it wasn't my cup of tea because:

1) It was described as Civ in space.
2) Starship combat isn't very detailed.

The ultimate 4X game for me would combine:
The moddability of SE4 (of course )
The strategic options of Stars! (gotta love those Mass Drivers, Jump Gates, variable-speed engines with varying fuel consumption, the list goes on and on! )
The tactical combat engine of MOO2 (with a few changes, like starting the ships farther away tham heavy beam range )

C'mon, let's get working on it! Check out the "New Game" thread that Snakeye started and is languishing away without much attention - it's not about just some new PBW game!

I believe that the main selling point of Galciv is its AI.

Any one here remember Imperium Galatica II? A couple of years ago they had a demo for space combat for IG III, but nothing ever came of the game.

IG 2 had a great demo, and a lot of really cool features. But it lacked in long term game play.

Birth of the Federation was an awsome game with way too much micro managment. Unsupported after the first month by Microprose and generally hated by the Star Trek fandom. (Trekies are way to obessed with cannon to make a good Star Trek game work.)

Star Wars Rebellion was one of the most challenging games that I have ever played. I still love it. But it was way to limited, with only two players, and a maximum of 200 systems.

I have never played any of those six games. Some of them I have not even heard of them. Many years ago I played the old, old Version of Sim City but I don't know anything about these new ones.

i can tell you simcity 2 is bigger and better. still play it sometimes. once you get the hang of it, it's easy, but it's still fun.

This is what happens to you when you do not diversify your gaming experience.
