I don't think so. There was some rigourous testing done (sorry, don't remember by whom and in what thread it was posted )
The conclusion was units are destroyed randomly but it is skewed by the fact that lower hit point units have more chance to be destroyed first by simple roll of the dice and weighting against HP ratio. Well, at least that was my vague recollection of the debate Sorry if I'm wrong.
