You cannot "protect" your daughter from the outside world till she dies of old age . She already has contact to it without your supervision (school, friends) and you probably do not worry about it that much. So - what exactly are you worried about that she might see or read what you do not wish in the internet? I would be more worried about restricting the time spent on the internet, we all know how addictive things like gaming, chatting, etc. can be... and it is even easier for a child to loose the real-world contact that way.

If there are specific things on the internet that you do not like or fear, maybe try just telling her what you would not like, and show her what not to do and why and where dangers are. Most important in my opionis is, though, to be available for her if she want to talk about something. Ruatha's "post-police" idea is good, especially in the beginning, but I think, at some point, there should be trust and respect of her privacy.

The mother of a friend of mine was during her childhood in a "girls only school". One of the other girls was very shy and put blankets around her bed before she would undress so no one would see her naked, even partially. Must have been quite an act every evening. Anyway, one day said mother took the shy girl and told her: "Listen, what I can see on you I can touch on me, so cut the bull****." I found this very amusing.
