So did anyone find it odd that he used Berserker to get a +10 *defense* bonus?

Berserker does that, no?

+10 to Ship Combat mean offense and defense, ja?

I know what it does in the game... it just doesn't make much logical sense... if you're berserk, surely while you're better at attacking you're LESS able to defend yourself?

Ah, but you would be better able to shrug off damage. As racial characteristics/culture can't affect hit points, a defense bonus is the only way to simulate this.

That historical account of GUTB's demise was both informative and entertaining. Thanks, Loser, for the link. If anyone still cares, I believe the "ubermensch" thing can be attributed to Friedrich Nietsche (whom Hitler adored).

I did find one "uber" strategy in GUTB's approach that I may use if, as a newbie, I become desperate for a game. If I talk like a dweeb, maybe I can goad some of you into letting me join one.
