Huh? You lost me here Taera.
Wait, I see now, from Davids post. Ahhhh.
No what I was talking about is something a bit more dated than that. Just plain old collectors cards that you look at and trade. But game cards, now that is an idea I had not consider.
David that is a good idea, I mean why the hell not. It would give people something to do when the power is out. A board game based off of Space Empires would be very interesting.
I like the Playing Card idea too. LOL
"I have a full.... um, Attack fleet." (Full house)
"Hahaha to bad, my royal navy beats that all to hell!" (Royal Flush)

Now there is a good example of how an idea can mutate and take on a life of it own..
You mention 'post-cards' and 'trading-cards',.. I mention a trading-card game like Magic the Gathering,.. You mention it's a good idea and say a Board Game would be interesting.
hmmm, for postcards to Board games in 4 easy steps. LOL
My train of thought is more on the MTG-ish card game.
The idea is each player would have to defend his home planet. there would be attack cards (ships) and 'resource' cards that are needed to bring them into play. conditional modifiers like nebulas, solar flares, etc. there could also be 'race' cards that give the player 'global' bonuses (like a mining race where each resource card produces +1 resource.) Ship cards can be made stronger by adding engine boosts, shields, firepower etc. Players attack each other's planets and the defending player has to use his own ships to defend. If a player has no ships then his home planet is hit for damage.
etc, etc... Feel free to add more ideas, this is jst the basics in a nutshell. The only thing to keep in mind is to stay with stuff already in SE. don't invent new stuff. THe fun will be in how we use what is available, not in the infinate possabilities of what can be done. We'll have the possability to 'mod' the game after the basic units are done.
.. you're serve..

Re: Trading / Post Cards
I can't help but think of Pokemon (which I have QUITE a few of) cards which most people collected and didn't really use to play with.
Accordingly, I'm more inclined to think of cards as detailed graphical representations for people who love the game as opposed to those who want some sort of playable game (that would fall short of the real thing).

That kind of defeats the purpose of buying game cards...

Well, so a lot of people said about Pokemon cards (as people never acutally used them...just collected them).

Pokemon is a rather poor game to begin with...
But anyways... the few people I know that buy pokemon cards all buy them to play, as do most people that buy cards of card games.
