Aren't there, like, any REVIEWS or anything? They can't make customers sign an NDA...

Reviews mean nothing. Civ 3 got rave reviews accross the board.

Hi People,

Do you remember a post about that game in this forum ? I discovered it a few months ago when an egosoft developer wrote a post here about it.

So, when the game went out, I headed to their forums, as I learned long ago to never trust reviews. To get an advice on a game, I lurk on a game's forums, reading infos about the game's behavior. Think MOO3 or Deus Ex2 to see my meaning.

In fact, I even made a post in the Support Forum asking a question about the manual. Then I forgot about the game, because it is not due in France until next month. A few days ago, I read somewhere that the game has been heavily patched. So I go back to their forums, wondering what was done with it as it was seemingly bug infested. To my surprise, I cannot access anymore the support forum.

To get a patch, you have to be registred. I can understand that. But not be able to brose the technical forum is to me highly suspicious, and that seems to me overkill if indeed it was decided for Piracy reasons. It is depriving me of precious informations about the game's quality.

Oh well,

That was just today's rant.
That is over kill and should be taken as a horribly bad sign.

Also I post at the Deus Ex IW Tech forum as well. The game is good, but has many issues that need to be addressed. Still it is a fun game.

Currently playing the game.

Decent but a bit buggy. Manual is worse than the original for SEIV. Only 1 patch *shrug*.

Decent game IMHO...better than X:Beyond the Frontier (1st one in the series).

As for the forum bit....Star Wars Galaxies had something similar done after going live. Guess I don't see anything strange about the registration requirement.

my god you're wiggy.

"you didnt read my message"

"no, YOU didnt read MINE!"

good god, if the support forum is closed, ask somewhere else. I tell you TWICE to check the general forum, you ignore me both times, and the second time you ignore me, you even manage to QUOTE me telling you to do it.

Im not sure if you honestly dont understand the difference between the closed support forum and the open general forum, or if you are choosing to ignore that option, or if you are just so in love with being upset and having something to ***** about that you dont want to explore other possibilites.

I cant really help you more than that. If you dont want to go to their general forum and ask all the people playing the game what its like, then you just wont be able to buy it. I can understand not wanting to throw money away without some information to make your decision, but youre totally ignoring a simple and easy method to gather that information.

Its really no skin off my back, but its sort of frustrating seeing you incite an otherwise rational bunch of people into fearing and hating what by all accounts is a good game in a niche genere, from a small publisher whom should probably get more press. sort of like Shrapnel. I mean, the rational thing to do is to head over there and ASK about the game, not give up because you cant access ONE forum out of FOUR.

But instead you have convinced everyone that this is the next moo3, and you managed to do it with nothing but a request for blind faith that there is a conspiracy. congratulations, you should try a career in politics or religion.

Now let's come back to your argument :
If I want to juge this game's polish and playability, I should just read the out of topics threads in the general forum, or lurk in the spoiler forum to do the same (too bad for me if I wanted to play the unspoiled game). Oh, and don't ask for a demo, there is none.

Like it or not, but when I had access to the Tech support forum, it was really NOT OBVIOUS that the out of the box game was playable. In fact it was not for a lot of people and the interface was creating quite a stir. Now that forum is on restricted access, I bet I'll find someone who'll explain me how wonderful it is even if he hasn't played it.

Count on me.
Oh, and you obviously haven't noticed, but I did post my opinion on Egosoft's general forum just before I started this thread. Let it be clear for all : brosing the general forum is not enought to evaluate this game.

I don't care if it is a small publisher or a megacorp, if a company publish crap, they just deserve to close. So far, Shrapnel is publishing games like SE4, or like Dominion2 (which is now on second printing, first one has quickly sold out ! ) And you know what ? I was able to read Dominion2's bug list and technical problems before buying it.

Problem here is that X2 have potential, could be a bLast for an Elite fan like me, but this company is hindering my habilities to evaluate their software. Which is both suspicious and frustrating.

At Last but not least : and I am "wiggy" ? That was a thin line from name calling, which should be best avoided in a SE4 forum. If you need to get to name calling, then mail me, and I'll ignore you all the same.

EDIT
***First Version was quite harsh, and has been heavily edited after reading Atrocity's "Read Me" thread.***
