Yes the moonsized spacebase that can move is a great idea. What about a large cruiser around the 650Kt mark !
Mines to protect their areas of operations perhaps a special type of mine ie one with a automatic cloak device and a new tech arm ie cloak mine sweeper so that other races can search out pirate mines

There is actually a shipset on PBW like that... I forget exactly what it is called. There it is: the Salty Dogs. They do not have skull and crossbone, but they are ships with sails and such. Unfortunately, they are all facing different directions in the portraits.

There's also a Space Pirate or Pirates shipset with these cool dark green ships and asteroid-bases... their race portrait looks like a Fazrah with some sort of artificial appendage or something...
edit: and every single ship hull has the skull and crossbones!
