Re: Longest game?
Well with troops, I believe that the best bonus that any single troop has in offense is applied to all your troops, and the same with defense. I was thinking more with ships, but even for troops 50% is a big bonus to add to what else you can have...

Re: Longest game?
So you're saying if I have a couple of troop weapons, with stats like this for damage at range:
20 / 10 / 5
25 / 5 / 0
The second example would make a better troop weapon right? Because you're saying that range and firing rate don't matter with troop weapons? Do I have this right, or am I confused again?

Right. Troop weapons are hard coded to always fire at range 1 and fire each turn regardless of what the description says.

It can't be like that, right?

It depends on where the bonuses are. IIRC there are three possible locations. Putting the bonus on the troop chassis itself DOES cause a stacking effect for that bonus only. See Proportions Elite Infantry for an example - each one present will add a +1 to-hit to the entire army.
Combat Offense bonuses don't stack but DO share - the highest one of any in the army will be used for the entire army. Proportions and unmodded combat sensors and ECM are examples of this.
To-hit bonuses on weapons neither stack nor share. By this I mean the to-hit bonus of the weapon's attack itself. I don't know of any unmodded (or modded) weapon that uses this except in Proportions mod - see the infantry weapons there for an example.

Actually, it is not. Think about Iraq war. USA had superior equipments and superior training compared to Iraq soldiers. IIRC it was about 100-200 USA soldiers lost their lives during the campaign, but there were tens of thousands of Iraq soldiers who died (again, IIRC). Why? Because US troops could use satellites and reconnaissance planes to locate Iraq forces and bash them before they even knew something was wrong. Also tanks you use (M1A2 Abrams, IIRC) has far greater range than Iraq tanks ever had not to mention targetting system, which allowed US tanks to shoot with out problems in the middle of sandstorm. Iraq tanks relied heavily on visual sight.
Had US army have same equipments than Iraq soldiers, the result of war could have been something very different. I believe that even several hundred percents of improvement in troops and ships capability due training and superior equipments is not only credible but grounded.

Re: Longest game?
I think you over-estimate Iraq's available forces in the most recent conflict. They had very little in the way of military equipment.
