i've used a modified Version of the centers in my mod too (GrauMod). i think the game is more interesting if we use Homeworld as an "unique" and "hard to replace" Planet in a SEIV Game.
another way would be to play with the settings.txt
There are lines which state the homeworld values, so you could just increase the values to 250% or whatever, which would again greatly enhance the ressource output of the homeworld, though only in minerals, organics and radioactives.
