You miss the point, the Dreads will fire on the planet unless you run the turn manually. What we need are weapons that can be set to target specific things like Weapon Platforms.

Shields and armor... no mention of weapons.

Given a capture planets strategy, they'll run the gauntlet and drop troops.
Probably need more cargo in order to secure a beachhead on breathable worlds though...
