I disagree. I frequently put the 40-60 longdead/souless from casting Army of the Dead on patrol in just-captured provinces and the unrest levels will drop 20-30 points on their first turn of patrol. I don't consider that shabby at all, especially for troops that cost no upkeep or food, and only 10 gems to create.

Re: Fast Troops Patrol Better? Ok but ...
If flying only doubles patrol effectiveness, sounds like they're no longer a good idea in Doms II. Fliers generally have very low tactical moves (like 4 AP) compared to, say, 7 gold militia (12 AP), and of course 2*4 is less than 1*12. Looks like militia / slingers / archers are now the best!
I don't know if harpies are considered animals, though.

Re: Fast Troops Patrol Better? Ok but ...
Which would be a better use of my patrolling budget?
1 wolf rider 3/24
3 vaetirr 2/8
Both have 24 aggregate tactical movement. Are they equivalent?
Will the wolf have a better chance of reducing unrest (at all) and the vaetir tend to reduce it by more if both groups succeed?
How does unrest reduction work exactly?
If anyone has a more detailed understanding than faster X more=better please spoil me.
Thanks,
Rabe

Re: Fast Troops Patrol Better? Ok but ...
- Are there any new general insights on this topic? (Liga's manual addenda does not help much here)
- Is the effectiveness for catching spies the same as for reducing unrest?
- Are wolves (or animals in general) useful or bad for catching spies?

Re: Fast Troops Patrol Better? Ok but ...
Spirit Mastery works well for patrolling. 15 spirits for 4 death gems, with a tactical speed of 12 each.
I do have a feeling that patrolling may be bugged at very high levels... when you kill over 100 brigands, I think it subtracts from 100 from the total, so you only kill 20 with 120 worth of patrollers. I'm not sure of this, though. Has anyone ever managed to kill over 100 bandits in one turn?
