Why are you unable to use .xls files? If you are using Windows, you can download (from Microsoft, I believe) this free ExcelViewer program, that will let you view (not modify, clearly) Excel files. If you are using Linux, OpenOffice will let you open them, and save them in its own format if you like.

I don't know about MacOS, but I'd guess if M$ made the effort of providing the Windows program, they also probably did the same for MacOS. Don't know about Solaris, though, or whether OpenOffice works on Solaris...

So, if your computer can run dom2, my guess is there's a free program that will let you view .xls files

Open Office is available on Windows, too.

But it's a chunky download for those of us who don't have Broadband. If you keep an eye open for a month or two there is generally a magazine with OpenOffice on the coverdisk, and it's well worth the investment.
