Usually there are very few reasons for a scripted spell to be ignored unless it's impossible to cast...
Did you give gems to your pretender mage ? With no gem some spells can't be cast, and given she has only 2 levels in each path the spells she cast can easily fatigue her very quickly, making impossible for her to continue casting.
With gems she would be able to reduce substantially her fatigue, cast more spells, and maybe follow the orders !
