Thank you all for the kind words of support. It is very kind of you all and I do appreciate it. Believe it or not, but sharing this news and reading your Posts has helped me cope with her parting.

It really is uncanny how such a small animal can become so important to ones emotions. I honestly believe you never know how important something or someone is until it or they are gone.

You also have my condolences. It is amazing how quickly we can grow attached to our pets. My wife got me a dog for our anniversary, and I never really realized how much I love him until we came home and found the front door wide open and our dog gone. Of course, knowing his personality, I was assuming we had been robbed and he had tagged along with the thieves. The only damage he'd do if someone broke in is causing them to trip when they turned around.

Unfortunately, this is usually true. It is worthwhile to occasionally stop and spend some time thinking through what is important to us.

When was the Last time you tried. We were surprised at how well the "spay your pet" mandate has worked. Check your paper now and see. Even the ungliest horrible mixed mutt is pulling $150 and up now. And services like SPCA and the Pound are also.

As a LONG-TIME cat lover (and a guy bad at Clinton imitations), "I feel your paiin".
(an attempt at levity...sorry)

Don't know if I've told my story, or how many times, but I had to do the same with my Siamese cat, "Rat". Siamese cats have a tendancy to become a one-person cat and I belonged to him. I was crying so badly when I took him for his "final" visit to the vet that they told me to go around back (because of the people in the waiting room). He looked at me as they put the needle in his paw and his eyes "drifted away". I'll NEVER forget it. And it took me about 5 years before I'd get another cat because I never wanted to go through that again.

My mother always told me that guys who loved cats are special. And, if that's true, it stands to reason a guy would shed a tear (or just out-and-out cry) at the loss of one. I'll predict this, though (based on my own experience), this won't be the Last time you cry over "momma". You'll most likely be surprised some day and remember her and get all "blurry" again.

You have my sympathies .

Heh my family has 6 animals

4 birds
1 Cat
1 Dog

We used to have 7 but as I said my old dog passed away.
The funny thing is my 50lbs dog is terrified of the 5lbs cat and the cat is afraid of 3 of the 4 birds heh.

AT, I feel and share your loss. A good pet like momma will be missed, but the flip side of that coin is that you have 11 good years of memories to cherish. All I can say is don't dwell on the loss, celebrate the life.

Be well my friend.

losing a loved pet is a truely painful experience and it seems the older you are the more painful it gets, even if you can deal with it better. The only thing i've found that compares (indeed is worse than) is losing a close family member, probably because a pet (especially a cat, dog or other 'smart' animal) IS a member of your family.
Most importantly don't forget the good times, keep them in your heart.

Deepest sympathies, Atrocities. My dog of 13 years had to be put down two years ago. Worst part about it was he was in Canada and I was in Ireland, so I wasn't even able to be with him when he went. Took me a long time to forgive my parents for not telling me until after he was gone.
But now, even though I'm admittedly pretty misty-eyed after reading through this thread, whenever I think back about the ol' boy it doesn't take long for me to think of something he did that makes me smile, or even laugh out loud.
And I think that's the sign of a truly good pet. They're only there for a short time, but in that time they enrich our lives and make our world a better, happier place.

If you are in California then your area has been hit by the same "fix your pets" rules that mine has. 3 years ago I could find free pets in every single copy of the newspaper. Now I wait 6 months to find a litter of "unknown mixed puppies" 1 hour drive away. My local paper even has a "free ad for anything less than $50" section so its not the cost of the ads. They just arent around.

Its a good thing. The pounds and spca are far less full. They can keep them longer. Less animals are put down. So its not like Im wishing that the campaign didnt happen. Everything has its pros and cons. This is more pro than con, its just something Im coming up against lately. Ive been considering becoming a pup-house for one of the working dog Groups. Seeing-eye, hearing dogs, wheelchair helpers, search and rescue, disaster, police, medical sniffers. One of those Groups.
