I've got XP for the current OS, Win98 will be the new OS and both drives are FAT32.

That won't work very well Narf. The older OS must go on first. If you attempt to install 98 with XP already there you will most likely not be able to boot XP again. Then again, going from XP to 98 will be an upgrade anyway...

i'd suggest you boot over DOS, erase the windows directory (or format if you have backups), then copy the win98 install files to a temp directory and install it, then when it's fully installed & configured make a install WinXP or 2000 (i like 2000) clean install. that worked for me.
