On the Star Wars Books: Timothy Zahn.
IMHO, don't waste your time with anything else. IIRC, Timothy Zahn is the only Star Wars writer who GL has borrowed material from. The capital planet of Corusant was Timothy Zahns idea. GL liked it so much he copied it. TZ also had a couple characters (like Grand Admiral Thrawn) that GL has labeled (off handedly) as cannon.
|
Ahem, you do know that Timothy Zahn had unprecidented 'access' to Lucas while writing his novels and that he was "In the Know" as they say regarding what was/is in lucas's head regarding the SW universe. I think Lucas even gave hin acess to much of the background story stuff he wrote. So don't be too sure who's idea is who's. I'm not knocking TZ, in fact he is my favorite SW writer, he's even a better writer than GL, but then again TZ has much more training in that area.
Just thought I'd point this out.
Cheers!

Actually the idea of a city planet for the capital of a galactic empire is from Isaac Asimov's Empire and Foundation series: a planet called Trantor.

Re: OT - Star Wars Ep III
Well I saw the movie..... I think Lucas and his 6th grade dialog writing skills should be fired. The action was nice but man SPOILER did Wace ever get killed like a punk. Forced out a window..... oh well.
The movie was ok, a lot better than the previous two and more on par with the darkness of Empire. I did not buy the way they chose to kill off Padme' but hey, were back to Lucas's expert grasp on the english language.
Its worth seeing at least twice. Go see it.

This movie has renewed my faith in Star Wars. I definitely recomend it.

Re: OT - Star Wars Ep III
I always felt that the Tim Zahn wrote like he was sitting on the toilet. You know some people think they do their best creative work while pushing out a log, but in reality, when your dropping MOO3, everything sounds good. I did not like his novels. To unfocused and "well lets do this meondering thing now" filled.
Now as for Shadows of the Empire, excellent book.
The bounty hunter wars are UTTER TRASH. You have been warned.

There was a lot of laughter in the audience in each of the scenes where Anakin and Padme are together, and Anakin says something that is supposed to sound sweet and loving.

Re: OT - Star Wars Ep III
Amazing. Absolutly amazing. Was in line for the midnight showing, dressed as an Imperial Captain in a uniform my wife made for me. The experiance was... breathtaking.
Note to those who haven't seen it: expect nothing, you will be impressed. Expect too much and you'll be disappointed. That seems to have been the problems with EpI & II.
Grim. And dark. As far as I'm concerned, this very adaquately displays Anakins slide to the Dark Side. Pure evil. There's no doubt in my mind that Darth Vader is the ultimate villian.
I'm actually reconcidering taking my 5 yr old daughter. She's as excited as I was to see it though so I don't think I'll be able to keep her away from it. I'll just have to brace her for some of the darker, scarier parts.
My hat's off to GL on this one. Definetly

From what I've heard about it, it might be best if you didn't take her.

Re: OT - Star Wars Ep III
Yay for all who saw it at 12:01AM!!!!
I thought it was a good movie. Definately recommend it for all to see(But maybe not for young children. There may not be blood and gore, but there sure are alot of lost limbs. Did anyone else notice how there was a hand slicing off fetish?). My suggestion for a better viewing is to let yourself be amazed at what GL can do with what you already know is gonna happen in the movie. I'm probably gonna see it again on Monday since it's a holiday! Woohoo!
Here's a little quiz: Name the 4 characters that appear in all 6 movies.
PS. hmm...do you think Order 66 would work against the Heroes in SEV?

Re: OT - Star Wars Ep III
Ohhh yes. Star Wars is very likely based on Frank Herbert's Dune books. The first Dune motion picture was planned for release earlier than SW: A New Hope, but eventually was released later. Otherwise, SW would probably never have been so big and we'd have a large Dune mod for SEIV and perhaps a small, rarely used SW mod.
At least seventeen close similarities were noticed between SW and Dune by Frank Herbert himself IIRC.

Re: OT - Star Wars Ep III
Star Wars may have similarites to Dune, in the same way that all stories share many common plot themes and character types. Especially two stories that are both from teh same genera of sci0fi the way Dune and SW are. Star Wars is no more like Dune in that respect then Dune was like whatever stories that came before it that inspired Herbert though.
That's not at all the same thing as Muppet Tresure Island being based on Tresure Island. That's a case where the muppet movie is a complete retelling of the story. It's the same story begining to end, just with some minor adjustments and character tweaks.
