Re: OT - Star Wars Ep III
I always felt that the Tim Zahn wrote like he was sitting on the toilet. You know some people think they do their best creative work while pushing out a log, but in reality, when your dropping MOO3, everything sounds good. I did not like his novels. To unfocused and "well lets do this meondering thing now" filled.
Now as for Shadows of the Empire, excellent book.
The bounty hunter wars are UTTER TRASH. You have been warned.

Re: OT - Star Wars Ep III
There was a lot of laughter in the audience in each of the scenes where Anakin and Padme are together, and Anakin says something that is supposed to sound sweet and loving.

Re: OT - Star Wars Ep III
Amazing. Absolutly amazing. Was in line for the midnight showing, dressed as an Imperial Captain in a uniform my wife made for me. The experiance was... breathtaking.
Note to those who haven't seen it: expect nothing, you will be impressed. Expect too much and you'll be disappointed. That seems to have been the problems with EpI & II.
Grim. And dark. As far as I'm concerned, this very adaquately displays Anakins slide to the Dark Side. Pure evil. There's no doubt in my mind that Darth Vader is the ultimate villian.
I'm actually reconcidering taking my 5 yr old daughter. She's as excited as I was to see it though so I don't think I'll be able to keep her away from it. I'll just have to brace her for some of the darker, scarier parts.
My hat's off to GL on this one. Definetly

Re: OT - Star Wars Ep III
From what I've heard about it, it might be best if you didn't take her.

Re: OT - Star Wars Ep III
Yay for all who saw it at 12:01AM!!!!
I thought it was a good movie. Definately recommend it for all to see(But maybe not for young children. There may not be blood and gore, but there sure are alot of lost limbs. Did anyone else notice how there was a hand slicing off fetish?). My suggestion for a better viewing is to let yourself be amazed at what GL can do with what you already know is gonna happen in the movie. I'm probably gonna see it again on Monday since it's a holiday! Woohoo!
Here's a little quiz: Name the 4 characters that appear in all 6 movies.
PS. hmm...do you think Order 66 would work against the Heroes in SEV?

Re: OT - Star Wars Ep III
Hmm - Darth Vader, the Emperor, Yoda, Obi-wan Kenobi?
Off the top of my head, Aniken Skywalker and Darth Sidiuos (I think) for the real names of the first two.
Just guessing.

Re: OT - Star Wars Ep III
*JAW DROPPING AWESOME*
I saw it at midnight.
No Jar Jar, no Ewoks, no pod racing. Just pure Star Wars goodness. Episode III reminded me why I love the Star Wars universe. EP I was ok, EP II got better but didn't have the right feel I remembered as a kid watching the original 3, but EP III gave me the feeling back.
The acting was better, but no one will win an Emmy. Why do people think Star Wars was ever well written? Star Wars isn't Shakespeare. It never was. Some scenes have been memorable ("Captain, being held by you isn't quite enough to get me excited" "Sorry sweetheart, I don't have TIME for anything else" *grin*) but could never have been called a master piece of writing OR acting.
George Lucas set out to put the Saturday matinees from his youth (Buck Rogers, etc) onto the big screen. Now I would have liked things done slightly differently (Jar Jar, Ewoks, blech) but in the end, what else is like the universe of Star Wars?
If you're looking for witty dialoge, look elsewhere. I hear that Sideways is a nice "artsy fartsy" film, maybe I'll see it.
But as far as memorable Sci Fi, Star Wars is it. George Lucas has never been real strong on dialog. Should we hate him for it? Who else is there? I, for one, am just going to like Star Wars for what it is and not feel bad that its not Shakespeare.
We knew this story would be dark. I didn't realize just how dark it could be. I thought the reviewers were making a big deal about nothing, until I saw it. George Lucas was one hairs breath away from an R rating imho. Not only was it graphic, but dark, dark, creepy, dark. Bad things happen to good people for 2 hours. Not a feel good movie. I watched Star Wars on Thursday just to wash the taint of the Dark Side off of me.
