Game Crashes and flashing screens

If anyone can duplicate this without having to wipe their windows installation and start from scratch please let me know. This sounds promising but with a full new installation of Windows it could be a combination of things

It's not related to the direct show filters; I can still see the screen flashing. This is a very odd bug; it doesn't show up right away all the time, which is why I was misled earlier.
