I finished the easy version with a DV.
I still say the shelter bunkers and spider holes ruin the game. I fired everything at a s hole, then 105s, then the Thud hit it. Next turn the S hole is shooting at everybody on the map. A few turns later, I moved a squad within two hexes, got fired at, returned fire and pinned it. Moved next to it, fired and nothing. Next turn the S hole shot at and chased my troops away.

I reread the thread about spider holes (titled sniper holes) and used the saved game file to see it done.
I am going to try the harder version and use the tips in the other thread.
