Re: Different game objectives
I was a big fan of Illuminati. I like the idea.
"Servants of Cthulhu" nitpick... I have found it is very hard to destroy another player, especially if...
1) Multiple people are attacking.
2) There are places to hide and they want to hide.
3) There are other enemy allies willing to gift or trade for places deep in their empire, but not near the original enemy. This would be especially true if everyone knew you would win by killing them and knew it would be bad to let them die.
A possible fix would be to have the "Homeworld" be counted as the player. Taking out a homeworld would be the end for that player. They could be initially set with a strong guard that must be overcome. This could fit in to the initial game of loosing the Illuminati card cause you to loose everything attached to it.

Re: Different game objectives
This sounds like fun... I would join an Illuminati game if you started one!
This actually reminds me of a game I once participated in - can't remember what it was called, but I think it was one of Puke's - in which everyone had a secret target and the winner of the game was the player whose target was wiped out first, no matter who did it!

Re: Different game objectives
I use to have an Illuminati Bumber sticker that said:
"Assasins do it from behind!"

Unknown Enemy hosted a PBW game (Paranoia) which had this objective. Randawl... erh, I'm not 100% sure about the exact spelling of his nickname... well, the Aussie who doesn't like being called Randy won that one. There were probably other such games, of course.

Re: Different game objectives
I've never played in a game like that. Having alternative objectives sounds interesting.

Re: Different game objectives
Another thought I just had...
Maybe rather than a single grand objective, a list of lesser objectives might be interesting:
Capture X,
Locate Y,
Develop Z,
etc
