I would have to say that you should really try the Dom2 demo, or wait for the dom3 demo, since it looks like it will show most stuff to. Both of the demos show most core aspects of the game, ie you get a LITTLE bit of everything. For me at least, they showed very clearly what the game was like. Expecially the combat system, which i loathed at first sight, but have learned to love to hate. It can be frustrating at first, but once you finally realise thta it does EXACTLY what you tell it to, 95% of the time, and you can predict when the 5% of the time that it doesn't will be, it actually is kinda neat. And more realistic than perfect controll over troops like in some games. People don't allways do what you tell them. Especially if its attack the dragon with your sticks or something to that efffect.

Please don't forget about Master Of Magic. Stardock is making Master Of Magic 2, and because they're both developer and publisher they say they can afford to do the game right.
MOM2 is currently on hold since Stardock focused on (presumably) Galactic Civilisation 2.

They MIGHT be doing MOM2...

They haven't got the rights yet, and they are not only working on GALCIV 2 and the expansion first, but also an online game called Society. MOM2 isn't really even in the pipeline for them.

This is unfortunately WRONG.

Stardock had problems getting the rights to MOM. So have no plans to do MOM2.

The Dominions series are massive, they are perhaps one of the most massive games ever produced. The amount of various magic spells, monsters and items as astonishing. there are three eras in Dominions 3 and each era will have roughly 17-20 different nations to play with

Yes. The game has nearly 60 nations in total. Every one of them is different from each other and requires a different aproach. You must find what suits your style and likings.

And you must design your Pretender God. It's not like what you do in MoM with your wizard, it is way more than that. You pick your physical form, your magic skills, your Scales of Dominion, whether you are awake at the start of the game and so on...

The game is very extensive and I recommond trying out the Dominions 2 demo. Or waiting for the Dom 3 demo
