im not so sure about 10. what if you want to use the fleet strategy, but want your ships to break formation?

Then you set the individual ships' strategies to be the same as the fleet strategy.

Except of course that affects ALL the ships in your empire, not just that fleet.

All I can say is wow.
I while back I was trying to tweak the AI to end the perpetual war syndrom. Real life got in the way. Looks like that may have finally been fixed.
Looks great! Even though I'm very part time here, its still pretty cool to watch this game evolve.

If you design a ship without supplies by giving it no engines and try it out in the simulator, it will fire all its weapons as if it had full supply.
