I think it depends on how it's done (though I have confidence in IW's decisions), and I'd welcome the opportunity to personalize pretenders in minor ways and/or wouldn't mind getting a few gold or gems or starting troops for leftover points...
... but while I don't object, I also think it's rather petty to be worried about getting something for spare change points. It doesn't seem like a big deal except for people who might want to seek counselling for compulsive penny-pinching or a getting jipped complex.
