What are the DOS and py files in the folder for?

The batch file is just a way to open cmd (dos prompt) in the local directory immediately, rather than the random location you get from the start menu > run command.
The python scripts are what I use to generate the system and quadrant files. Much, much handier than keeping track of it all by hand.

I crashed SE V after a using an FQM generated map.... Will try and repeat this.

And for those like myself who have never fooled with python and honestly have little idea of what you just said... is there an aid program yet?

You don't actually need the python scripts to use the mod; all they do is output data files. I just left them in there in case others might find them useful for their own tweaking and fiddling.

I have uploaded Beta 2.
Version 5.00 Beta 2 - 05 February 2007:
1. Changed - Warp Points now have more variety for abilities.
2. Added - Fancy lightning effects to non-nebula storms, courtesy of Suicide Junkie.
