Re: MA Pangaea-best starting troops?
Blood armor is nice, and your hero can make it right off the bat if you get him. But i do not use blood at all, as i role play and consider my pretender and people "good." Consider not using blood a bigger challenge!
My gorgon makes great mage armor. Silver hauberk. also Pangaea mages cast earthpower, then invulnerability, so they have very good armor in a fight.

Xietor, your people can still be good while sacrificing the lesser humans who destroy the forest and your gorgon might be unbeatable with most things but if someone throws down claws of cocytos/petrify ect she WILL go down.

Re: MA Pangaea-best starting troops?
yeah, late in the game you have to pick your fights. But, late in the game i do not use the gorgon to attack, she stays back and casts spells. Very hard to kill her in that situation in her own dominion. And if gift of health and haunted forest are up, you can just forget it. Even with "just" 5 earth, she cast summon earth power and has those artifact boots on that gives her 1 extra earth, so she is sitting at 7.
And, by the way, petrification works on the undead as well as the living. So the gorgon does not fear the undead!

Using Manikins and Mandragoras are probably not good in the "nice" sense of the word, either, but they get the job done. And protecting the forest is what it's all about.

Re: MA Pangaea-best starting troops?
MA Pangaea has good access to death gems, because your mages get the 1 death and dark knowledge only takes 1 death to use.
Typically i will build up the gorgon with death magic until she can summon bane lords. haunted forest i cast with a national mage that starts with 1 death, and give the pan an artifact to get him to 2 death.
My main theme with the gorgon is to have her cast as few of global spells as i can since she is a combat god, and accidents do happen(: Though i rarely die when just fighting the computer. I set is on difficult, and that can be challenging early on, but by mid game i typically have things so set up i can't lose and declare myself the winner.
of course, there are those games where you are stuck in the middle of the map and 4 people go to war with you early, and that can be very challenging.
