well - we don't use any adobe products, so it must be something to do with that product registering a dll for DirectShow (a part of DirectX).

So I would try -
switching off the splash screen (uses direct show to display the splash screen, we use a single picture, not a movie).

if that lets you get in, then you may have to switch off all sound as well.

However - it seems best to repair whatever adobe has broken, as described in that page?. Probably something to do with adding custom adobe CODECS, is my guess.
