You're right, being the MEE don't mean that yo'ure trying to wipe out another player, it just shows other players that you're expanding A LOT faster then they are. For instance: In the single player game I'm playing against 13 computers, and they all think I'm the MEE, but it's not because I started attacking them or nothing like that. I always try to make peace with all the computer empires to let myself build up a good defensive system. But this game I'm playing the second I found the first computer (in a large quad) they thought I was MEE. But it's thanks to me expanding so fast. I took 1/3 of the galaxy before I found them or they found me. Now I've blocked off half of the galaxy. So it's just according to how fast you expand in the beginning that decides if you're a MEE.
