Question for PC support gurus

Hi there,
I would like to know if every Win9x and thereafter Version had Xcopy.exe and if so where it was/is located. Always in the windos\system folder?

I cannot try all of them, I need to know it for a workaround in the install program for the TDM-ModPack. That is if anyone can point me to an install program that can find the SE4.exe on its own and is free to use, this would be good enough, too.

In Windows 9x it is located at c:\windows\command\xcopy.exe
If you are going to copy directories with subdirectories, you should use c:\windows\command\xcopy32.exe /s /e [source] [destination]

How about running a command prompt, and doing a
"dir /s xcopy.exe >> scan.tmp"
Then scan for the first instance of "xcopy.exe", and snag the path mentioned just above that in the file.

That might work, but dir /s would take a long time to run, especially as hard drives continue to get larger.

You can take advantage of the fact that almost all systems are properly set up to have the 'dos' directory in the path. So, just look in those directories. If it is not found, it is ok to throw an error.

Looking for a free install program? I don't know if they are any good, but you can try looking through the list at CNET's download.com site.
