I only played Abysia in Dom2, but there they rocked, thought my Newbie self. Heavy infantry and heat aura, what's not to love about that?

I'm not sure its *that* good at that. You get what? 25% chance of E pick on a capital only mage (Warlock) who suffers from old age and is far surpassed in most capacities by the demonbred, so you'd rather get a demonbred almost every turn that you can rather than a warlock. Even the apprentices are more useful - they are effective blood hunters and researchers that can double back as communion slaves/masters in combat.

You don't need more than a few mages pounding out bloodstones, and astral/blood is an excellent set of paths for horror spam and teleporting buffing mages (load them up with a blood stone, earth boots, and a starshine cap, and you have a seriously mobile and dangerous combat mage.

They make excellent workhorse mages at summoning, forging, and casting due to path combinations.
I've used them extensively in games, which often end with armies of mechanical men, devils, abysian warriors, and demon knights led by various devil lords and supported by communions and horror spams.
