I think it's 255, but anything after about 20 or so and the other players can't see the rest of the name. Kind of frustrating actually. I played against a guy once who liked to do that. All his ships names had like 40 letters, and all but the Last 5 were the same, so I couldn't tell what kind of a ship it was.

Yes, but be careful who you use that against. There are those that would consider that a bit unsporting.

Besides, I there are enough other "psy warfare" methods to use.
I'll try to keep the ship names under 20.

Actually 20 was a guess on my part. To be sure you might want to test it a little. I will when I get a chance and let you know what I find out.
