No, it just takes current path level and subtracts one when he returns.

Any empowerments, whether they're raising him higher or just bringing him back to the starting level are still counted.

So he'd be N-1 if he died and came back again. If this time you empower him to N+1, he'll be at N when he dies and comes back.


Edit: And no, you can't see how the prayers are doing. If you're trying to minmax it, you'll have to keep track.

But you've made me fetch the scroll. It says:

I took "each death" to mean/indicate that was totting up your "past-history" of previous deaths, no?
