Default Re: A look at explosives and bombs ratings

Some thoughts here
Quote:
The standard WinSPMBT Booby Trap is apparently a weak 120mm mortar round (1/2 the HEK)
Seems to work pretty well more chance of a suppress result than a kill, representing caution looking for it. Oops did get a kill fond it in that 50metre hex.

Your friendly neighborhood Suicide Bomber apparently packs the equivalent of an 81mm mortar shell with twice the explosives (HEK rating)
If he survived can assume he detonated on top of target?

Your average IED is a Fertilizer Bomb ... and an impressive bomb it is !
It compares VERY favorably to the standard 1000kg aerial bomb !
Okay possibly another smaller one should be available but doable with diesel & a few extras, tricky bit is hidding it & having the blast hit effectivly.

Booby traps are can be made out of pretty much anything, so it would be hard to settle on a right value. Perhaps it could be built around hand grenade value, as it would be the most easy/common item, but no big deal.

The name should not be taken too literally, it could be that or something else. There have been quite a few massive IED used in Iraq, made with multiple heavy shells (240/155/152mm) linked together and buried, powerful enough to rip apart an Abrams and send its turret flying away. I had proposed the addition of an intermediate size IED to simulate the more common types (one or two arty shells emplaced near the road) but the big bang types have been definitively been used.
