But did he hop a flight to the continental U.S. to buy it, or did he buy it once he'd flown across for other reasons? It makes a difference, to me at least.

IIRC, he was already in the US for other reasons, and just bought it because it was easier than ordering it from Africa. More a coincidence than a planned course of action, really.  |
