First half on truck mounted NASAMS in Ukraine. Latter half is on where the USA is going in their system.

In an interview with Aftenposten, Norway's largest daily newspaper, Colonel Trøite detailed the significant impact of NASAMS, revealing that it has successfully intercepted over 900 cruise missiles and drones, with more than 60 percent of these targets being cruise missiles, which are notoriously difficult to defend against."

In today's world that is a very impressive success rate at having a 94% kill rate. That includes also 300+ drones.

To defeat that many cruise missiles equipped with minimal EW is excellent.

Radar can pick up and track multiple targets out to 75 miles.

"The system’s missile engagement can be executed at varying ranges depending on the type of target. For example, while the AIM-120 missile has an effective range of up to 180 kilometers against some targets, NASAMS typically engages threats at a closer range—often between 25 to 50 kilometers—to maximize interception accuracy and minimize the risk of a missile getting through. "

In the field even we use them mounted on trucks (OSHKOSH FMTV 6x6.). The USA will be fielding them in 2025/26. They were also fielded with HIMARS launchers already.

They as pictured are also used for "static" defense of Strategic assets such as airfields etc.

Rheinmetall is supplying Ukraine with further Skyranger 35 air defence systems based on the Leopard 1. The order is worth a three-digit million Euro figure. The systems are being financed by an EU country through the proceeds from frozen Russian assets. The production and integration of the systems will be carried out by Rheinmetall Italia SpA at its headquarters in Rome.

“We are grateful for the trust that Ukraine has placed in us,” said Armin Papperger, CEO of Rheinmetall AG. “We would also like to thank the EU country, for the support, which underlines our continued efforts to support Ukraine.”

The Leopard 1 Skyranger 35 combines the mobility and protection of a proven tracked vehicle with the outstanding effectiveness of a cannon-based air defence system. The Skyranger 35 is equipped with a KDG 35/1000 revolver cannon in 35 mm x 228 calibre with a firing rate of 1,000 rounds per minute. It has an effective range of up to 4,000 metres and a high degree of commonality with the Oerlikon Revolver Gun Mk 3. Thanks to AHEAD technology, the Skyranger 35 is airburst-capable. In the future, it will also be possible to equip it with modern guided missiles.

NOTE: Tank watchers on twitter expect that these will be built on the 20-25 leftover Leopard 1A5BE hulls that Rheinmetall has in storage following stripping their turrets for spare parts.
