I plan to at least get familiar with the game before jumping into multiplayer. There's no sense wasting my time getting whooped by a human if the AI can do it with one hand tied behind it's back. So yeah, I'll in be training for a week at the very least. From what I have played of the demo, I think I might prefer the Proportions mods to vanilla SEIV.
I wouldn't think of any mod or vanilla SEIV as being 'better' than any other. They create such a different set of circumstances that it gives you nearly a whole other game. I play all of them and have a bLast with how different the challenge is!
Well in my opinion, the nearly identical production of a new colony to a homeworld made little sense. 1M population produces 5/7th of what 4000M can do? And it also seems like Proportions still gives use towards smaller craft sizes due to making them faster and harder to hit. Plus there are a lot of other nifty features the mod adds. Of course, I haven't yet played the full game to realy make a judgement, but the mod still sounds pretty interesting.

Absolutely ! You should try Proportions mod that was specifically designed to deal with this problem. It is on your Gold CD, but yow better download 2.42 upgrade from PvK' site. It fixes a lot of bugs and add a lot of new features.
