IIRC, Tachyon weapon works the same way as ionic dispersor (engine-killer) - all or nothing in a single shot. Namely, there is no "partial damage" carry over after the shot. It either destroys the component or the damage is ignored completely. If TW/ID can do more damage than needed for component destruction, this spare damage is also ignored. Thus, mounting normal weapon after component-specific weapon should not give any advantage, there is no any residual after TW/ID.

Favorite weapon: Phased Polaron Beam. Excellent damage at a decent range for a low research cost - and it's shield piercing too!

Least favorite weapon: Wormhole Beam. So let me get this straight, you have to research level 4 Physics, and all you get is this stupid weapon that moves an enemy ship 5 squares in a random direction??? If I wanted to move an enemy ship I'd use Tractor or Repulser beams, that way I could control which way I moved him!

I also like the Wave Motion gun. However, it is not to be used as a primary weapon. You need something to back it up on a turn to turn basis while you wait for it to reload.

The weapon I like least: I hate the shard cannon in unmodded SE. Very few people use much armor, and armor remains mostly unimportant so a cannon that bypasses it serves little purpose.

Re: WormHole beam: you understimate this gun.
it does not move a ship in 5 random direction. It teleports it to completely random location within map boundaries. Tested it. Or at least, it works that way in 1.49. i dont think somebody bothered to change this. Also, tractor/repulser only work on same tonnage or less while excort with WHB could easily move a starbase, baseship or whatever you want. Physics 4 are though a bit of too much for this support weapon but still...

And it can be a useful addition to those AS ships. Either you hit it or send it away.
