Geez, sorry for all the trouble guys! It doesn't do that to mine, it does crash, but doesn't affect the O/S or anything? Will try the mentioned tips, appreciate it! My name is Mike, BTW, Mike Amos, so no D curse, haha!! Thanks again for looking at it, even after the trouble!

Ok, weird, but renaming any other cmt to 995 does the trick, no crash, scenario starts up fine and plays too. Here's the stumper for me, at least. ALL cmt files are 200 bytes, a renamed one is 200 bytes, no problem, but if I then alter the text within the cmt IN ANY WAY, and save, it crashes!? Interestingly enough they also usually wind up being 209-212 bytes? Any ideas why this would happen??!!

Don't manually edit the CMT file, ever. Save the game from inside the game with he desired new name.

maybe someone manually edited the CMT file? - And possibly with a text editor. CMT files are binary, the only time I have ever edited one successfully (other than using the game to save it) - is with a HEX editor.

Brilliant!! Those cmt files open in notepad as well, I am so used to editing game files in notepad, etc., that that is exactly what the problem was! Thank you so much, saved it from in editor, and now everything is fine, thanks guys!!

Post the corrected scenario, it might make it to the next patch

....and FYI I have been changing CMT files with EditPlus text editor for a couple of decades without trouble. It's how I use to renumber them

Might work in overwrite mode, to ensure no extra characters get input in regular text editor mode (typically insert mode by default?).

A hex editor works on the existing chars so is always safe.

As I said any CMT that includes the slot number was modified using EditPlus so that adds up to 522 CMT's in WW2 plus all the ones in MBT and every one of them is still 200 bytes but as well some scenario and map names were made larger than the game normally allows using the same editor. A good example of that is....

18 Grudge Match at Kapelsche Veer 1/45

if you try to save that in the game you only can get to

18 Grudge Match at Kapelsche Vee

.......just saying you can edit CMT's with a text editor and even make them longer than the game normally allows and the game won't blow up but it could be you need a good text editor that only adds what you want added.

( or maybe I've just been lucky for 20 years or maybe I just know what I'm doing )

Ok guys, here is the corrected scenario, appreciate all the advise, and prompt too! It's been many, many years since I dabbled with the SP series, so thanks for the tips! I like anything involving Minor countries, so hope to include some more scenario's involving the Early Bulgarians in Macedonia, Hungary, Rumanians, Polish, Yugoslavians and Slovakia!
