Normally minefields aren't marked until after the attacking side finds them, and the defenders would have their minefields marked on their maps by grid coordinates and standard NATO/WP markings, depending on doctrine.
The signs you posted look like what comes after they are found and thus put so everyone knows to stay away. But as you said, we don't have to use them if we don't like them. Really don't see the need to change the icons at all.

I will be leaving the mine files that are there now as the default and I will be placing a new folder into the Graphics folder and instructions for anyone who would rather use the signs and there will be a backup default set will be there as well which is how the alternate German Flags in SPww2 are set up

And such signs are often improvised because almost no one carries a truckload or two of signs they might, or might not, have a use for around.
