Yeah, those were Cave Trolls.
Check out the huge Mountain Trolls that were manning the Black Gate of Insenmouth in the Two Towers....

No no no. To kill trolls, you need to apply acid or fire to them when you knock them down (burning hands, fire arrows, acid arrows, etc)
