Re: Failure to Thrive.
I'm going to have to agree with you on this one. I'm playing another game where I'm rushing yet another Argatha player. They just seem so... weak.

Re: Failure to Thrive.
I also rushed them in one of the blitz games where they were unable to mount much resistance.

Sorry folks I don't seem to be able to connect at the moment and am at risk of staling - I seem to be able to connect to another of Velusion's hosted games without any trouble. Will continue trying.

My impression of living longer in MP (from the few games I've played): there seem to be two basically successful strategies 1) to be honest and 'perceived strong' (i.e. not a border-threat, and costly to mess with) so that you don't get directly attacked after the initial expansion phase and you can be a modereate power player in alliances, or 2) rush to an very strong position and then play smaller states off of one another who will give concessions or become vassals in order to not be attacked by you. (I've achieved #1 exactly once, and #2 I haven't attempted.)
|
Actually, #1 is the way to go. With #2 you will have all the other little ones allying against you, if only to divert attention from themselves and in need of somewhere to expand further than indies, without wanting to step on the toes of somebody else who can drag it out too much.

Unless EA Agartha gets really lucky right off the bat and uses an awake combat pretender, it seems nearly impossible to achieve either of these positions going into midgame. Partially because Agartha will always be 'perceived weak' and have to fend off early war. (Or fail to...and go down swinging his big slimy fists.)

LA Agartha, on the other hand, seems quite potent.

Heating up
The North seems to be heating up. I think we shall see a winner in the north in the next several turns (certainly not saying that it will be me). But things are getting interesting.

Re: Heating up
Mmm. My giants are so very hungry. And you know what tastes good? Minotaur ribs, that's what tastes good. Roasted over an open fire. Centaur is not bad too, but a little stringy. I like to make jerky out of them.
