LOL Love that image.

Next to last words...
"I'll show them young whippersnappers how to swing a cane! I'll hit them so hard by the time they stop rolling their clothes will be out of style!"

Would be nice to have a forgable "Suppress Berzerk" item for mages.

Could be modded. To go berserk they have to pass a morale check v 12. Mod an item that lowers morale. They won't go berserk.. course they may not stick around either.

The tough ones are (Ashdod's giants).
Berserkers, including Ashdod's giants, won't go berserk until they're damaged, unless someone has cast Touch of Madness of them. In practice this means that the Shield of Gleaming Gold's Awe will still work against most berserkers except ones you're actively beating on, so it still has some crowd control benefit.

(Sometimes berserkers will berserk themselves if you Repel them, though. This won't happen with Ashdod's giants because they have long weapons that can't be easily Repelled, but it happens frequently to Maenads.)

On the other hand, Awe isn't tremendously useful against elite (i.e. high-morale) troops anyway, and especially not against blessed sacreds who tend to have several stars of experience (Ashdod's giants). An Eye Shield, on the other hand, would be great against Ashdod.

On the other hand, you just have to hate that 50 turn limit.

Naah, with an N9 bless you'll fatigue out way before you even hit the 50 turn limit anyway. That's +100 fatigue over 50 turns, although in practice you'd probably only be berserk for 40 or so of them.

Agreed. In my current game I've coupled N9 with E9 for those very same fatigue issues. The game is very much a "rush" game. We'll see if I've found the bless/scales sweet spot.

Let's say you're using Niefel Giants with N9E9. They have enc 4 IIRC, and for simplicity we'll pretend they go berserk on the very first round of hand-to-hand combat. That's 4 fatigue from encumbrance per turn, plus 2 fatigue from being berserk (+2), minus 4 for E9. I don't recall precisely what their Prot is after N9E9 blessing + berserk, but I think it's around 19. That plus regen is enough to make them pretty much invulnerable to regular units (i.e. not mages). After 20 rounds of combat, though, they are now at 40 fatigue and are starting to take many critical hits, each vs. a mere Prot 9. They don't have any Defense. Against most opponents this doesn't matter because after 20 rounds of Niefel chill you're unconscious or dead anyway, but vs. e.g. skelly spam they're starting to take significant damage, and after a few more rounds the Niefel Giants will suddenly evaporate (around fatigue 50) as they start getting critted to death.

In short, I don't think the 50-turn limit is ever going to be the limiting factor on a sacred with N9, because if you don't win by turn 30 or so your fatigue is so high that regen can no longer balance out hits. I would generally prefer E9N8 over E9N9 for that reason.

and remember that if you are berserk you are also taking fatigue from movement.
Many people think a E9N6-8 more suitable.

Especially on those days you're mages get hit and go off yelling.. Cowabunga! I'm a ninja!

I don't think berserk makes you take fatigue from movement, that's Flying. Berserk +N just makes you take a flat N fatigue per turn, in addition to fatigue from melee or spellcasting.
