Default Air Defense Trigonometry

For anti-aircraft purposes what altitude are CAS fighters operating at, is it comparable to helicopters set at high altitudes? I ask because on several occasions I have noticed my antiquated non-radar, thermal infrared, near infrared or night vision goggle equipped AA crews firing upon fighters where between the gun emplacement and the flight path of the fighter there is a hill or some other blockage. Is it the case that airplanes are at such an altitude that the gun-emplacement angle of elevation is greater than that angle which would be blocked by adjacent cover?

Default Re: Air Defense Trigonometry

Aircraft fly at an altitude Z which is above the contours, trees, buildings etc. About equivalent to Helo High, or a little more.

Level bombers though fly at an altitude too high for smaller AAA, or some MANPADS to engage. But level bombers are rather irrelevant.

Helo Low altitude helos are hidden by trees, a contour or a building. Landed helos are on the ground, of course.

Any actual figure for Z is merely notional. This is a game of ground warfare - therefore details of what "the crabs" are actually up to are irrelevant to you as a commander, as long as they deliver the ordnance.
