Default Soviet/Russian BMP-2 discrepancies

Don't know if this was deliberate or not, but I was looking through the data of the different BMP-2 versions when I found something that seems a bit odd. All the BMP-2 versions have a Crew of 2, even the earliest one (1979). It should have a crew of 3, unless the Kliver turret was available back then (was it?).

Oh and another thing about the BMP-2M (Unit 788); it's armed with a 100mm 2A70 gun. Is this correct ? I cannot remember anything about that, I thought the "M" upgrade was basically adding the Kliver turret with 4x ATGM launchers + AGS-17, and a stronger engine. And the "Berezhok" version being a further upgrade to that (which it seems to be in the game). For the BMP-2M a crew of 2 seems to be right though.

All BMP's have a "crew" of 2 with the third crew transfered to the passenger capacity ....and all have a carry capacity of 9 .

As for the 2m.... it's on the list to investigate and when I get to doing OOB work I will look into it but I'm guessing right now it's an error that's been in there for at least 4 years. The fact that no one has questioned it before now is surprising but a quick search turns up nothing that indicates that unit carries the 100mm gun.............so good catch

Just some FYI if it helps...
1. On topic...

2. An "old friend" has made an appearence since we last talked about it, and indeed it looks like the Russians are going to break some new ground in design with it...

3. I think the BMP-3 series is good but just in case...

1. I agree the info suggests the armament of a BMP-2 is the same basically for every varient but none of those websites even mention the BMP-2M

2. Hmmm I thought I had added that as a prototype but seeing how it looks like every other new wheeled APC on the planet I think I was initially thinking of the Patra............*IF* they actually do start issuing them to troops I'll add it to the OOB and build an icon for it. Given it's similarities to just about everything else that should take 10 minutes

Fallout Re: Soviet/Russian BMP-2 discrepancies

Issue should now be resolved. The BMP-2M differs from previous mods for the following...
1. Multiple sights and first with TI vs. IR in previous mods. This is why ref. 1 notes a new power pack mounted to support new FCS power requirements and other features to include AC for electronics and people.

2. This mod is the only one to have the 9M133-1 KORNET-E AT-14
3rd Gen ATGM. See ref. 1 for 2nd Gen ATGM ones used on earlier mods.

3. In lieu of ATGM can have AG-17 mounted on the Port Side for Infantry support. See pics in ref. 4. Might mean adding a new UNIT?

4. Armor upgrade package available. Improved firing efficiency of 30mm main gun.

These are the main issues. See ref. 4 the manufactuers site, should link to the BMP-2 Modernization link then click on links on the left for FCS Specs etc. India has finalized a deal to upgrade their BMP-2 fleet to this standard as has I believe both Malaysia and Indonesia but, that's for another time and not this year from me anyway.

And I agree the BOOMERANG for now anyway looks like the "new" PARS/HAVOC (USMC testing if keeping up.) 8x8.

I'm off to bed.

Pat

Pat, are you saying the AGL is not used if the unit is equipted with the ATGM ?? We already have two versions of that unit in the OOB's.........one with the ATGM and one without but they both have the AGL and what you appear to be saying is this vehicle either has the ATGM or the AGL... not both.

Also, to add to the confusion this website you posted http://kurganmash.ru/en/turrets/turret_bmp2/ claims, under "BMP-2 Turret" the ammo load as

Ammunition allowance
30-mm APT, FT and HEI cartridges for 2A42 automatic gun500 pcs
7.62-mm cartridges for coaxial PKTM2000 pcs
81-mm smoke grenades for 902V system6 pcs
ATGM1 piece

.......... really..... 1 missile ?..... that's what it says but I have seen the photos of the vehicle with two launchers on each side of the turret but it does appear to be that you either get the missles or the AGL

Fallout Re: Soviet/Russian BMP-2 discrepancies

Russian configuration and foreign mount systems (KLIVER and PREDATOR.) show only main weapon and KORNET. I have two pictures that show Russian mounted BMP-2M configuration. Note BMP-3 has single mount multiple launcher in second picture as well. And yes it appears also from the pictures here as well that they must be in either in an AT or Infantry direct support configuration. Previous BMP-2 models had single tube launcher (4 Missiles.) also pictures and tech drawings below again from Ref. 1 show no AG-17 weapon mounted on them or similar. I do not know if the newer/current Russian BMP-2M mounts their KLIVER Launcher mount as shown in the picture to the right as shown on what appears to be a BMP-2.
Look in lower left "box" of ref.1 for KLIVER and PREDATOR.

AND KEEP THE AG-17 THE TURRET PICTURE NOW SHOWS IT CLEARLY!! MISSED IT AS CLEARLY SHOWN IN OTHER PICTURES AS WELL OF RUSSIAN UNITS "HEY MO!?!" . CENTER MOUNTED FOR RUSSIAN UNITS. MANUFACTURER MUST BE SHOWING FORIEGN SALES OPTIONS FOR MISSION AND COST RESTRICTIONS.

Pat
