Very interesting stuff. Looks handy. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I also like the multi-shape shifting.

Endo, thanks for the screens! I have been following them all along and they help me bide the time whilst waiting for dom-III shipment to slowly crawl its way to my mail box.

No problem. Welcome to the group, and I'm really sorry for you if Tuxgames keeps you waiting. Wish to see anything spesific? Feel free to request anything from Sunraybe's nation and pretender lists. I'll probably send a picture.

All repeat after me : Endoperez is Good, Endoperez is Great, Endoperez is the God of Screenshoots, the Bringer of dominion daily fix, Bane of boredom , ... ^_^

A Hennya from Shinuyma screenie would be good if possible, thanks ! ^_^

Wow, that's awesome Endo. Specifically, the eye icon for sneaking units. I can't count the times I sent scouts away only to forget them in some remote province (and then be surprised to find them when I take the province or move another scout there)

Yup, methinks the scout icon is a huge addition.

BTW, would it be possible to see something from LA Atlantis..?

I can't post a Hannya from Shinuyama, because Shinuyama are Middle Age era of the Japanese nation, and Hannya appear in Yomi, early era of the same nation. Thus, I'll post a Hannya from Yomi.

And here's something from Shinuyama, as well. I'm not sure whether the insanity is just a flavour text, but after having learned that the White Vanara reincarnation is an actual mechanic, I'm not sure if there's any fluff in this game at all! There must be, of course... but... reincarnation! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/eek.gif

Thanks again Endo.

From the flavor text, looks like Mujina can get assassinate order no ?

If she (it?) indeed can do it and makes its target insane too, could be fun to play. ^_^

Nerfix
October 4th, 2006, 05:10 PM
Most definedly yes, though couldn't you shove off a Mujina by saying that she's beatiful in the myths? Or was it some other ugly, female, malign, japanese spirit? Ahh, I forgot.

I did stop reading the "Are we paying more for less?" since it's gone off-topic from the game itself.

A Skratti question:

Let's say I have a Skratti and equip him with armor and weapons. I then have him change to wolf form to sneak around a bit, then I want to attack current province and shift to werewolf form to be a thug.

What happens to the equipped items?

Those items will be lost.

If you change form while in a friendly province with a lab those items will move into your laboratory with any other items in storage.

This must be the worst possible situation with shapeshifters and their alternate forms and how items are handled.

Yep, I think that the items shouldn't be destroyed if you arent in a province with a lab...this is a bit too hardcore.

If I change a Skratti's shape from the wolf to a non-sneaking form while in an enemy province (assuming it is possible), what will happen?

Neophyte
October 4th, 2006, 09:45 PM
I wish that they were either merely not active in said form, or could be made not-active instead of dropped with a spell - similar to dedication of items in White Wolf's Werewolf pnp RPG.

Cainehill
October 4th, 2006, 11:24 PM
Yes - a shapeshifter should keep the same items upon shifting back. Otherwise, good items get lost, while bad (cursed) items become trivial because a shapeshifter can lose them.

( Of course, there is the literary traditional of shapeshifters winding up naked, ie werewolves etc, but it really doesn't fit a game where dragons (size six) can share the same helm as a hoburg (size 1).)

Ballbarian
October 4th, 2006, 11:34 PM
Perhaps a compromise where if the shapeshifter flees from battle he loses the items, but if victorious he can retrieve them...

But who is he?

The picture's URL is:

http://pohanstvi.net/slavia/svarog.jpg

Searching after Svarog, I found this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Svarog
He is a fire-god, or in even older legends, smith-god. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/eek.gif The picture fits, but myth not.

I don't understand what's wrong with the picture. Ok, so (supposed) fire god is surrounded by snow. So what ? It makes sense that ancient Slavs, who lived largely in cold lands (cold scale -1 at least), worshipped fire gods. It shouldn't be a suprise that they saw fire (warmth!) as beneficial to homestad, cooking meals, smithing... Sun/fire makes winter go away.

By the way: there were some slavic supernatural entities associated with winter, too. There's Grandfather Frost in RUssia (spelling depends on country, Dziadek Mróz in Poland), and winter itself was commonly depicted as (not so friendly) woman.

I still intend to make a pagan slavic mod, and my implementation will have both cold -1 and focus on fire. Contradicting ? Not really. I may add some baltic (and other legeds) if I run out of ideas. The main problem seems to be finding enough information about ancient slavic military.

The contradiction was that the picture of someone who is probably Svarog, a Fire god, is used for a Father of Winters. The original picture fits a god of winter very well. The story and theme of Svarog don't fit a god of winter and cold and water who grows stronger in extreme cold.

It's good to know you're still continuing your mod.

Agreed. You could use some Ostrogoth, Dacian and later Russian elemants and merge them. Try some Osprey books. Rome's Enemies (1) is about Germans and Dacians.

Need some screens from those fortunate enough to be playing already (still some hours before I can go home and play the demo...)!

How about, let's see, some early game map shots as you scout out your area and fortify (or attack http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif) nearby provinces.

Or, your first strong combat unit. Or your first mercenary http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

I apologize as I don't have a copy of Dom III yet, but can someone (Endoperez? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif) post screenshots of some national summons that used to not be in Dom II? In particular, I am interested in the Dragon-looking thing for Arco and the Kailasa summons: Gandharva (sp.?), Devata, and a few other high levels.

Thanks in advance!

Silent Seas AAR (http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/threads/showthreaded.php?Number=440466) by St. Patrik should have all the Kailasa-spesific summons.

Sirrush attached.

Thanks, Endoperez!

I read the entire report, and it was very interesting--my, the Ghandarvas (sp.?) are a nasty summon.

I couldn't find a screenshot of Sirrush anywhere, however. I even tried to use the site's search engine http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Thanks a bunch, Endoperez! I am not sure what to think of the unit. It's sacred and it has high strength and HPs. But its defense is terrible (which will be addressed to the extent that I usually take the full Water Bless when I play Arco), and it's not a flyer as I had hoped.

They aren't good against lots of normal units, but should do well against few tough creatures. 3 attacks at str 22, with Quickness from blessing giving double attacks 50% of the time? That's not bad at all.

A high nature bless is also very nice with them. Regeneration, good protection and lots of hitpoints is a great combination.

I guess what dismays me is the really low Defense. But then the Kailasa summons that Endoperez linked me are the only other high level national summons I've seen in this game, so I don't have the proper basis for comparison.

Endoperez, our Finnish Seraphim, when you have the time, is it possible for you to post screenshots of the Marignon Sacred units (both Middle and Late eras) and their best melee commanders and mages? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Sunray's Dom II/III site has an excel spreadsheet listing most of the units for each nation, but he is missing many national summons, and he has no units for Marignon at all.

MA Marignon is the same as it was in DomII. Some of the spells all nations used to have access to are now national.

LA Marignon combines Goetic Masters (Blood, Fire) and some slight access Water/Air/Astral sailor-mages of DomII Marignon themes. It's a Blood nation.

MA Mari has Flagellants and Knights of the Chalice. LA Mari has just Flagellants.

Unfortunately, I don't feel like posting 4-5 screenies. LA Mari doesn't have best mages in the traditional sense; they have lots of mages with few paths their most expensive mage won't get often, perhaps at all.

Chelms, LA Man, is reminescent of the Golden Era Arcoscephale, despite the heavy Curse hanging over the land. The worst is behind it; it is the nation of the future.

Patala is ruled by Nagas, not the celestial beings of the earlier times, but the Nagas are not evil. Gurus don't reach the higher levels of enlightment needed to become Rishis. It isn't a decadent nation, unless you count shapechanging Naga seducers as such, but it's perhaps more warlike, and the White One caste is smaller.

The humans of Jomon, once just bandits under Oni rule, have created a culture, incorporated the Tien Chi beliefs of five elements into a different, new system of magic. Not bad.

Tien Chi has probably become stronger. Celestial Masters are weaker than ever, but the barbarian invaders have brought with them VERY nice mages. For the first time, Tien Chi can recruit useful mages in ALL their forts!

Arcoscephale is changing. Their glody days are past now, but they've got new mages, some new tricks (armored elephants) and have only lost Astrologers. That's just a change.

Jotunheim has Seithkona and Norna. Less giants, but that's not decadence. Well, I don't think it is, that seems to be a word that's hard to define. Any way, death and turmoil are precent in most, but not all, LA nations.
