to be honest with 48 hrs a turn its hard to stall unless there is some rl reason

You know, come to think of it, my dark templars should just feed on one another. That seems to be fitting in with Late Ulmish backstory. Sacrifice one or two a turn so that the other 30 might live! And as they become undead as a result they stop needing food.

Yeah, people tend not to like being drowned in thousands of undead chaff later in the game. Look at it this way, it'll save you having to do all that late game micromanagement. :)

Well, I just meant that last turn, the Niefel Giants were the last to take their turn...and they are going to be the last to take their turn this time. I just think that anyone who is last to take a turn, should be the first to take the next turn, just moves things along quicker.

Yea fair enough, I agree with that. I was just saying that he might have some rl reasons, (and even if he does, you probably are still right since it doesnt take that long to take the next turn and he's gonna have more time doing some other stuff till the end of that turn comes)

I'm having this problem, and it was around for awhile in the other Newb game. The workaround seems to be to wait for it to hang, forcibly shut it down, and try again. You might need 2 or 3 tries but it should work.

iRFNA
February 28th, 2011, 09:51 AM
This happened on NewbsGoneWild and was fixed by gandalf simply restarting the server. Sent an email requesting that.

As a side effect, the turn timer will get reset back to 48 hours.

Finalgenesis
February 28th, 2011, 10:49 AM
same...

I haven't managed to connect after 5-6 tries and I have to go. I might not get another chance to do dom turns for the next 36 hours... Can we extend the turn so I can resolve this issue?

iRFNA
February 28th, 2011, 10:55 AM
Well, torgon still hasn't submitted his turn. And the timer is extended by at least 48 hours already since gandalf restarted the server. That didn't, however, fix the problem this time. Gandalf is looking into it.

Hmm, he last logged on to the forums 3 days ago. Not a good sign. He may be suffering some set backs at the moment, but he's anything but defeated. Perhaps pythium's hydras were sufficient to break his morale, though...

Did a little detective work, and he's still active in NeophytesDelight. Or at least he has a turn for that game currently submitted.

I'll give him more time to reappear before doing anything drastic.

NaivePhilosopher
February 28th, 2011, 04:03 PM
In my limited experience, hydras are an excellent way to break player morale. Gogo mobile regenerating clouds of poison!

Also echoing Finalgenesis' comment, great work on the admin'ing iRFNA

There's a potential problem for people who haven't gotten any versions of the CBM before 1.82 that had the EDM integrated and haven't downloaded the EDM. CBM 1.82 doesn't include the graphics for the integrated EDM mod, so summoning those late game dudes is gonna make you all crashy. If you haven't gotten any CBMs from 1.7-1.81, grab the EDM (http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=10238&d=1277840680) just in case! You don't need to activate it or anything, just put it in your mods dir so you get the sprites.

Well he was logged onto forum sometime midway through that last game turn.

I presume he staled that turn, as there's no communication/post from when he's logged on nor taking his turn, and this isn't the first time. I'd say it looks pretty bad and we should just shoot for a sub if there's no reply to your pm for another day.

I really am tired of playing coy and playing polite to players obviously lacking a molecule of consideration, I seem to run into 1 or 2 every MP game. Past a certain point its up to the possible culprit to prove their innocence, not us having to play PC until proven beyond a doubt.

So Torgon, prove me wrong! You're not an ahole lacking a single molecule of consideration, are you?

bbz
March 5th, 2011, 06:11 AM
Thats a bit harsh, but yea I'd say go for the sub or we might keep on seeing 48 hrs turns + him staling.

Finalgenesis
March 5th, 2011, 07:25 AM
Na not really, that's 13 other human players he's holding up, what's harsh is him not taking even 15 seconds to make a post or pm admin (even if just to say he still plans to play but is busy with real life stuff, rather then leave us hanging and in limbo) especially when his profile showed him to be logged onto forum last turn, it's been ongoing for 3-4 turns and we have made polite comments and inquiries to no avail.

Why won't some people spend even 15 seconds to clarify the situation for other human players? Because they are aholes without a molecule of consideration, in fact I consider them going out of their way to ruin a game, these aholes should never be allowed in any MP game and I make an effort to look through all the new recruiting MP games and pm admin if I notice known scums to make sure these scums don't make it into a game where normal players try to have fun and infect it.

Now we haven't gotten to the point where Torgon is confirmed to be one of these creatures, from my past experience it's only 50/50 at this juncture, and at this point it's up to him to prove he's not one of them, not for us to play nice and coddle him.

All I ask is 1 molecule of consideration of players joining a MP game, but unfortunately the anonymous nature of internet brings out the true scumbag hiding just beneath the skin of some folks.

I will end by quoting our excellent host iRFNA to put things in perspective:
"If you want to quit mid-game for whatever reason, please allow me to find a sub! Just post and say you're done! Having someone stale out or spontaneously go AI really sucks! It's ok if you're losing and want to quit, just say so in this thread and let me find a sub!!!"

DarkAvenger211

Does anyone know if I log in on another computer to check if the round started again, and it hansn't, do I have to play my turn again?

What I mean is when I log onto a different computer, it obviously doesn't have my saved moves on my other computer. So when I click to do my turn I have to start over.

But do I have to do this if I only check to see if it's my turn or not? As in just look at the starting screen with the flags, and not actually hit play turn?

I ask this because I check periodically on my laptop to see if the round played through, but if it hasn't and I previously played that turn on my desktop, I feel like I need to redo my turn because it will upload a turn in which I did nothing.

Does anyone know what I mean here?

Finalgenesis
March 5th, 2011, 01:24 PM
you'll be okay as long as you delete your .2h file in the corresponding game file within your save game folder.

So if you're checking with a laptop after already submitted a turn on your desktop, make sure there's no .2h file inside the "newbswithlowselfesteem" file on your laptop before you connect to server.

For reference, .trn is the turn data while .2h is the move data (moves you made), which the server scans for to upload if it exist.

Don't get me wrong, the only territory I can conceivably lose to him is territory that is already empty of people... it's just that the bulk of his spawning grounds have me crossing some very empty terrain, so I'm starving should I try and conquer it. I view Ermor as a land problem that should be taken care of by land nations, with water combat penalty sufficient barrier to Ermor we're happy to watch from the side while preaching out their nasty dominion.

Who needs to instigate? You attacked him before I did. I'm just trying to make sure that we crush a problem before it becomes a bigger problem.

I agree that undead are the way to go in this instance... however early on for Ulm it is leadership for them that is the crunch. Alone I can't do anything other than containment. With a partner or two, we could crush the undead hordes without too much difficulty.

I vote for reciprocation, swap him out for a sub now, otherwise he'll just play the line out to achieve maximum grief. We've given him every chance to elaborate but it's pretty clear what he's after at this point.

We talked, a lot, he was even logged onto forum a few days back when we were politely asking for status(in thread and pm).

It's not possible to be polite to someone who is rude, it's called weakness.

We've made more then reasonable queries, the time for more talk is well past, it's time cure this infection before it gets worst.

iRFNA

I've asked gandalf to kill the timer for now while I decide on the next course of action. I'm stuck in a limbo that could accurately be described as between soyweiser's and finalgenesis's opinions on the matter. I really hate to sub someone out when they are still "playing", but on the other hand it is possible he's simply griefing at this point. Or maybe he isn't griefing and this has just snowballed over time with us asking him to play and him avoiding the forums more and blah blah. I honestly can't tell which it is, but I do know (from experience tehe) that a good griefer never leaves the zone of plausible deniability.

Soyweiser
March 7th, 2011, 01:12 PM

Play your turn! It is serious business!

iRFNA
March 7th, 2011, 01:23 PM
Ya, that's why I'm very reluctant to just sub him out, as in a way that'd possibly be victimizing him even more. It can suck when you plan out some strat for dom over a long period of time, with visions of strategic glory, the lamentations of women, etc. dancing through your head, then things fall apart on liftoff. Throw in the pressure on someone who is fairly new, and it makes them pull away more. Which adds more pressure. Then things start to get hostile, then he disappears for good.

Torgon, just play, it's fine!

My vote is to wait. I get the feeling that's a bit unpopular, I know, but I don't want to turn a newbie game into a mob to chase out a potentially put-upon newb as well. Odd, it only loads when it is the first game I play.

And yes those naked demons are strong, two att 13 str 19 attacks.

http://dom3.servegame.com/wiki/Rakshasa

One of the attractions of playing Lanka is the crazy good blood summons. But I tried a creative bless strategy and that way I totally borked my expansion phase. (6 provinces in turn 12, and I lost a mage every other turn due to indies. It worked in SP! :D). And currently my dominion is rushing of the board in an alarming rate, So I'm just trying to go for max damage. Killing 20+ mages is a good way to do damage. taxes at 200% for a few turns also decreases the value of your own lands. Scorced earth!

Sorry Abysia. You should not have broken the nap, and just blood sacd me to death.

The warriors are even better:
http://dom3.servegame.com/wiki/Rakshasa_Warrior

But I will not reach high enough research level so summon those.

(And god damn it, buy pd you idiots, always buy at least one. They information you get about the enemy army is worth the 1 gold. And it stops scouts from cheaply attacking and getting your lands. /me looks at LA_ermor, I mean you!).

I don't suppose you have some before-death gold you want to lay on me?

It was a really interesting war lwarmonger I learnt a lot from it and even at point I thought I'd lose the war(espesially when you killed all my gandharvas). My people recognise you as a worthy opponent and it was a pleasure testing their skills to the limit. We will take good care of all the lands we take from you and make sure that your people continue their peaceful and happy life.

Yeah, those loss leaders were really good at soaking up my iron Blizzards. Once I had that researched I had wanted to hit all of your armies at once in the hopes that I could wipe out all your main forces and then roll you back (I hadn't gotten to Evocation 6 until after you destroyed my main army, so I had to wait until your sieges were in place)... sadly those individual squads in your main army largely negated all 17 iron priests casting iron blizzard. I inflicted casualties, but not enough to get to "?????". Oh well!

Nope... I've got a couple of turns left as long as I've got money. I plan to make Lanka work for what they've encircled (and probably not get it... I think my crippled empire can at least rob Lanka of what they are trying to take).

Nevertheless I thought you did briliantly given the fact that your main goal was defeating ermor and your armies just werent created with me in mind. One thing though (of which I was scared) you could have raided me a lot with your stealthy rangers. Monkey pd plainly sux 15 of them would have been enough to take a proince in most cases and if you destroyed my economy I probably would have been in bad shape even if I could take over your capital.

edit: though I assume you didn't mass them because they are not nearly as useful against ermor.

Apologies Abyssia. Lanka's death throes managed to take a province from me, which thus necessitated some assisted euthanasia. Didn't mean to get your troops caught up in it.

I'm quite capable of killing Lanka myself, thank you.

To be quite honest with you, by the time you massed to attack me I was beginning my transition to a blood economy (without the research mind... that was all focused on getting to evocation 6 for Iron Blizzard, next up was blood once I had all of my counts harvesting blood slaves) and was running short on funds. I can produce a lot of rangers in an extremely short period with production 3, but when you attacked funds wise it was a choice between recruiting my one iron priest a turn per fortress (important for my planned iron blizzard spam)+max producing my undead guardians (whose black halberds were important for killing your blessed units) or going with a raiding force of rangers. Since all I really wanted to do was hold you off and then wear you down through attrition (which I thought I could do between iron blizzard and that huge army you destroyed at the outset)I decided to go the more conventional path. I just didn't have enough depth to fall back on, and was about three turns too late in researching.

Very well played though. I'll fight to the last!

Because I promised I'd ask, and because I realize that people are starting to die in this game anyway, if anyone's looking for another newbie game I heartily recommend that you sub into FrolickingFledglings over in the other forum for LA Atlantis. They're a leading nation, yada yada, the relevant details are here. (http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/showthread.php?t=47271)

I think the server was down for awhile this morning; I couldn't get to the list of private games to check them, anyway. It seems to be working now.

I know right? I thought I was done too... once Bandar Log finally gets around to it I probably will be. Still have three fortresses left!
