PS. I'd make the old Gryphin take you out to dinner or let him do the cooking, I'm sure you could do with the rest and relaxation.

Dearest Mac,
Having rejoined the beings of the internet(damn verzion phone lines have been down) I come to see your delightful offer and will be sure to comment on the things that I have knowedge on.. your game most likely not being one of them unfortunately.
As for the Dinner offer, I would be most grateful if I could do the cooking seeing that I have never had the experience of Sir Gryphin's culinary expertise *insert silly grin*.
As for rest and relaxation, alas, I fear I shant be able to partake of this extravagance until a aforementioned National Conference (my college is hosting) is signed, sealed, and OVER (please dear God soon!)

Mac.. dear one... they are two different situations http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif Mayhaps Sir Gryphin could elaborate on the fine art of both... then again.. I fear for your heart... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Saxon & Phoenix D same with you, have you given thought on your races yet? just curious

I'm trying to learn PBW ins and outs, also I have to get used to Strategic fighting, used to Tactical, have to play with the different ship strategies, maybe ask SJ for some ship capture hints, at least if I want to make it thru the lst 50 turns, http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

It all depends on the points.

I like to design the race history around the strenghts and weaknesses and the advanced traits.

So when that is all settled then I will design a race.

I will let my two friends know as well. I think they will be in the same boat....

The Growltigga is a busy man and is currently lurking your side of the pond, in Atlanta at the moment- not, I may add, on work but we have had a death in the Tigga clan and I am the most available clan member to go out and sort out the initial things.

Fly back tonight so will join in the thread tomorrow (now that I have got a decent local attorney appointed)

the races I play have nothing to do with Growltigers whatsoever. I either play

The solar federation (ie the humans a la startrek a la uplift); or

Berty the brazen bouncing balladeer and his band of bottom-burping brass idiots

DO I need to come up with a Growltigga orientated race to play in this one?

MAC5732 - JUST TO MAKE IT QUITE CLEAR:

THE TIGGA DEFENCE IS WHERE YOU KICK THE OTHER SIDE SO HARD IN THE HAPPY SACKS THAT HE THEN WALKS AROUND LOOKING LIKE A CONSTIPATED GIRAFFE FOR THE NEXT 3 WEEKS AND SINGS LIKE A CHOIRBOY

THE TIGGA OPTION IS USUALLY THE SENSIBLE ONE - FOR EXAMPLE, IF YOU HAVE TWO LADIES IN A BAR, 1 WITH THE FACE AND BODY OF AN ANGEL, THE OTHER LOOKING LIKE A RHINO'S UNDERCARRIAGE, THE TIGGA OPTION WOULD BE FOR THE FORMER - WITH YOUR EYESIGHT, THE LATTER COULD BE DESCRIBED AS THE 'MAC ALTERNATIVE'

have you given any thought on the makeup of your race yet, also what about your 2 friends?

QUERY - OUR RACES HAVE TO WEAR MAKEUP?? NOT SURE I AM OLD ENOUGH OR LIBERAL ENOUGH FOR THIS SORT OF THING

The High Lords of Sa-Hali have monitors installed in their bathrooms, so that when they retire to attend to bodily needs, they can still scrutinize their minions. In addition, when the High Lord flushes, he is able to direct the waste on to the head of the minion of his choice. This encourages workers to maximize their productivity and avoid wasteful habits like posting on internet sites.

Further, it should be noted that the High Lords wear shorts and go barefoot. This is to better allow those races who have been conquered to kiss the feet, ankles and shins of the High Lords. While this does not encourage workers to maximize their productivity, it is entertaining for the High Lords and reduces costs for new socks.

On Sunday night I got hit by a puck in a location a little further south than the wrist http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif
It wasn't doing 80kph or anything, but it was fast enough to put me on the bench for oh... 20 min http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif
My first purchase Monday was a can.

Moose: Yup. Seen plenty, usually in the ditch. My dad hit one a few years ago, which is generally bad for the moose and the car/truck.

Saxon
March 7th, 2002, 07:03 AM
Seen a moose? Dad shot one of the damn things when I was a kid and we had to eat moose meat for almost a year. It is not that exciting a flavor and after the 100th meal in a row, you start getting really tired of it. Mom told him he could never shoot another one, so we got white tailed deer and grouse after that.

He also shot an elk once and when he was butchering it, he found a strange piece of scar tissue. He cut it open and discovered that years before he had shot it, someone else had shot it with a .22, a light caliber rifle than was too small to kill it. The bullet was still in the muscle, with a lot of scar tissue holding it in place.

Damn good thing this thread is off topic, I think even Tigga would have a hard time relating this post to SEIV.

La Belle Du Boston, many thanks indeed - I find a turgid sense of humour, along with the famous British stiff upper lip, is sometimes the only thing that gets us through adversity.

What really has hit the biscuit is that work have called me in this morning (it is 08.53 here in Manchester when THEY KNEW I only got back from Atlanta at 04.25 this morning) - I am so annoyed I have just typed up my resignation letter - all this angst for a lousy $50k a year and no bonus http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Well, my line manager has said my resignation shouldbe accepted as I am obviously not committed to the company and the firm.

My ultimate boss and head of team has told my line manager to go.... ahem.... herself and has pointed out in my favour that calling a member of staff in after a late flight and from compassionate leave is pretty bad.

So where I am now is that I am having dinner with my ulimate boss tonight to discuss things (salary will be right a the top of my list I can assure you as will my line mananger)

Failing which, I have spoken to a friend at another firm who would be game on indeed.. so the answer is

No, I have not been fired, I resigned and if I do leave, I have somewhere to go

If "Au Revoir" or "Hasta La Vista" are not to your liking, how about "Auf Wiedersehn" or "Eey Awwww" in Mephisto's honour

Saxon & Terran C, in regards to the Moose cuisine, I would suggest some of Tesco's and Puke's wonder Sauces, (see earlier Posts in regards to our gourmet discussions) I'm sure that with either one of these additions, you would receive tastes that in truth, would incorporate new taste buds upon your pallets in regards to the preparing of outdoor food. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

so stinky one, what is the manual like on Gold then

mac5732
March 7th, 2002, 07:28 PM
GT, "Bald is Beautiful", tho I do have some hair left at my age...

The manual is nicely done, a little more informative then the old one, better explanations in some areas with better descriptions and examples of various screens, gives some points on modding if your so inclined, but doesn't mention anything much on drones or how they are supposed to work other then you can use them to hit ships or planets. Can they also hit a battlestation? Overall I would say its better then the original SE4 one. But, it still lacks some explanation areas, at least in my opinion. Example, It gives a listing on all the mods included on the CD, but, As I am not all that computer litterate, It doesn't give a step by step process as to how to download them and then where to look to find them or how to access them. I know you download them off the cd or from the program, but then where or how do you access them for play. Remember, I'm asking this as one who plays on the computer but doesn't get into the intricacies or workings and yes sometimes, us poor old senile gamers need some of the youngsters to hold our hands and walk us thru. Also once you download the mods, if you pick random ai's does it pick from all the races including those from the mods, or do you have to go and only play each mod seperatly to get the new races? My opinion only remember, I love the modds and can't wait to play them, but I just thought there would be a better table/whatever as to walking me thru to get them... But I am willing to learn and shall ask the modders for help, all in all, better then the old one and I do like the mouse pad...

Guff and TS, I have a different take on this.

This forum is for afficionados and fans of Space Empires in all and any of its incarnations. Sure, it is only right and proper that threads dealing with every topic are dealt with, whether they are image requests, modding files, strategy questions, newby questions, technical stuff or whatever. The point is this forum covers everybody and what the G&G thread is or should be, is just a general discussion thread

Can we change the title?

Tigless,
My ego is associated with the title of the thread and think of all the people who would have to change their links to this thread if the name were changed.
We could / probably should create a new thread more or less specific to the up coming Gryphins Gallatic Grandure as your ships eat hot plasma

Tigless,
Is the following:
"blowing hot air at great speed from their behinds."
Refering to the gentlaman who sits down the corridor from you that was awaken by the explosion coming from said region. I believe you indidcated it was heard by all.

Guff, damn, these Germans are too fast

Does your ego know no bounds? You should be more modest - I have seen howe you have changed the name of your homepage to 'Gryphin's Portal to Unbridled Delights'!

We are not changing the name of this thread to that I can tell you - how about 'Grumpy Gryphin's Garrulous Goosing Gaseous Gropefest'

Moose Kissing is relevant as there are plenty of Canadians on this site

Plasma Torpedoes - I have seen Anti-Matter Torps and Quantum Torps - never seen Plasma Torps - is this a reference to the hot air issuing from your backend?

Yep, the human zeppelin is still working here

mac make a directory in the seiv root directory and call it mod.

then place all the different mods in that directory..

Then in the root directory edit the path.txt file to point to the mod directories..

ie mod/tdm-modpack or what other directories there are...

and just edit this file to try different mods...

what was shipped 1.50 or 1.60 ???

Dear Tiggles (reverting to previous non-acceptable nominclature)
I am suggesting... or stating if you would prefer that most men taken in the general sense of HUMAN KIND (of which I am assuming you are a member of, tigga or not ) which are in positions of power (supposed or real) are mostly blowing hot air to keep their egos, positions, or self-acceptance up to the over-inflated norm that is basic SOP.

Mac, you are too old to vote - calling this the G&G thread is a little too egocentric for my liking - something like 'La Cantina' idea from one of the other Shrapnel forums would be as jolly idea - given my heritage, can't we call it "The Olde Frog and Frigate" - any G&G action (what a horrible concept and can I make it clear I am talking about our upcoming game where apparently "Gryphin is going to blow me to smithereens with his plasma torpedoes") can be dealt with under a thread simple specified as the "International Challenge"

On a separate matter, some of you may be delighted to here that I have been granted a week off paid, a substantial rise in salary and terms and I am replacing my former line manager in that role. She has been moved to human resources. Huzzah

Now, the new problem is thar my wife is on a pensions conference in Edinburgh next week so I have been given permission by her-who-must-be-obeyed-at-all-costs to enjoy myself - gosh

Cheers Gryph, one thing lawyers are good at generally (other than good at being the scum of the galaxy and a bane on humankind) is negotiation - actually, to be fair to my ultimate boss, he is a pretty cool dude and understands the fact that in the larger firms like mine, you have a differential between the fee-earners (ie the lawyers that do the work and bring in the money)and the admin and management personell - we have a problem that our admin/management side is so large that it is like the tail trying to wag the dog - my boss thinks I do a good job, I have some good clients and at the end of the day, if I leave, he loses fee income, if the manager leaves, he loses paying someone's salary - pity though cos Helena (the Claudia Schiffer lookalike) thinks I look like Shrek again now that she knows I am not going

IMPORTANT - Saxon, I am NOT now going to Raleigh next week as my boss is putting me on leave - I am trying to find out who is and where they are staying so that I can ask them if they can bring back your copy - my brother Steve may be in New York if that helps

On the forum front, I think we wind down the G&G thread - it is too egocentric, this thread is MADE by the contributions of all the people, not just you and me

I think the new general discussion forum is called 'Ye Olde Phong's Head' or something

I will set it up at exactly 16.00 my time (ie in 2 hours) so speak now or forever hold your peace

GrowlTigga,
Do the honnors, Start the threads in your name.
"International Challenge" is good for post directly related to the Galactic Conquest by th Eries of Gryphn
"Bull and BattleCrusier" or "Tea and Torp" for side banter and other culteral studies.
Hmm, "The Gryfin and Growler Saloon", (or some other variation on the spelling of Gryphin), woulnd not be bad and I think the others would like it.
For those who are wondering:a Growler is:
1 : one that growls
2 : a container (as a can or pitcher) for beer bought by the measure
3 : a small iceberg

M'Lady Frye, in regards to racing stripes upon my found cane, I have been thinking of joining a cane racing club as this would spice up my doterage and bring back the thrills of yesteryear, one of the requirements is that one must implore specific art work on one's candy cane style of transport. Alas, I'm do not enjoy the fortune of being gifted with the touch. Besides, I have trouble triming walls near the ceiling as the Mrs has brought to my attention on a number of occasions http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif however, one must try new things to increase one's awareness that surrounds him/her, so I may yet give it a go.

If you read the first two pages of any thread it will usually explain what the thread is about.
In this case GrowlTiagga and I ended up in a lot of off topic banter and were clogging up other threads. tesco started this one for the general purpose of banter and other off topic conversations. It is not specific to us, At the time it seemed reasonable to tesco to use our handles. We will soon start a new one with a more generic name proably reffereing to a "pub" or someting.

TerranC, "absolutly nothing", thats what makes this thread enjoyable to some of us, anything may be discussed including refining your Banter on various topics. If you read some of the Posts some do tend to be enlighting, Currently included are sections on an upcoming Galactic Bash of Universal Proportions and those involved discuss here what they would like/dislike in the game, this is among other topics, feel free to join in if you so wish...

As to the battle, I am not sure, I cannot recall if we were doing it with gold or not as if we were, I better do my damnednest to make Richard and Tim slightly richer and order a copy - unfortunately the position at Growltigga Hall is such that financially, I am strapped this millennia and have to be careful about things

if we were not doing it with gold, then provided the reest of the G&G possee are willing to be gentle with me, then let's go (but I will need a 48 to 72 hour turn turnaround timeframe)

No longer do I want to see my monicker sprawled across the ether - I get enough of that at the "Studmuffin monthly" site

I have kicked off the pub idea Guff and moi were discussing (see Ye Olde Galactic Bar & Grill and Phong's Head Cantina) so let's post there

That way, more people might join in and who are not put off by thinking Guff and I are a pair of
bindippers

GrowlTigga,
"*Think* we are a pair of bindippers"
I am sure there is no doubt in their minds.

Gryphin, LOL and ok, but can I make it clear that if I am a bindipper, I am the best bindipper on the planet and the most stylish going

EDIT: We will let you belive you are the most stylish.
EDIT: Folks let's close this down with
3 6 9 post.
Seem a perfect number:
3 Odd numbers all divisible by 3
May the thread rest in peace.

Sorry Gryphin, that just does not cut the mustard.
You guys may think you are just letting me think I am style incarnate, the problem is, I know I am the global style avatar

Face it, it is pretty hard to stand up against this sort of complete confidence and arrogance

Too late, Gryphin, our Posts crossed so we are up to numero 370 - still, that is a good number, it equates to Mac's age times the hairs in your furry fella times the number of girlfriends pheonix has divided by the number of mooses tesco has kissed plus the amount of cash I have in my wallet less the number of staff Saxon dominates times the number of legs Mephisto has

Gryphin & Growltigga - long may they rest in peace

Au revoir mon braves, I am sashaying down Le Pub

Hence the end of the beginning. Not the beginning of the End.

Well I might have misspelled it. Everybody makes mistakes. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/blush.gif

TerranC, Mac and Gryph have got it right - this thread probably makes as much sense to a lot of people as say, a modding thread does to the posse who post on this thread. It doesn't mean it is not relevant to the SEIV world and I think those people who do participate have a lot of fun.

Gryph was also right - we are changing the name of this thread or setting up a new one with a 'Cantina'-style title that is intended, as this thread is, to be a general chat/discussiuon thread for SEIV afficionados.

Any subject can be discussed which is legal and not immoral.

We will see where we get to.

Teran C,
If I didn'd make mistakes I would not be here. If GrowlTigga was never wrong, I would not play against him. One of the reasons I am single is my X never made mistakes and could not live with mine so she got rid of the biggest mistake she ever made. I just love contradictions in terms.

..Just a little bump for honorable mention in the 'Popular Threads'! But this one was way back on page 42 in the SE:IV forum!

Cor, this is a bLast from the past.

Good work David Gervais, but like embarassing photos of yourself when you were 14 (and thought a tight perm, spandex, pixie boots, make up and a napoleonic hussar jacket were trendy), some things should be left buried and forgotten
