David E. Gervais,

I guess it's time for me to activate my self-inflicted mini-lurk-report. Once again a good part of it will be self serving. I hope you don't mind, it's kind of therapeutic. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif I am glad it was therapeutic! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

rags, I am still here. Just not very motivated, at the moment!

Taz reaches behind him and produces:
1) 2 extremely beautiful & shapely ex-FBW's from the Cantina ( twins) trained in the gryphin position (and other interesting things...)
2) One huge pile of credits just-minted from the Bank of Tazmania - Tax Free!
3) An engraved Noble Piece prize with mlmbd's name on it (Gold plated even.)
4) Your own all expense paid trip to: Irving, TX
5) And Last but not least, the heart warming smiles from all the lurking fans of the Lurk Report... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Gooooooood Morrrrrrrning, all you lurkers. Well there was/is lots of stuff happening in the SE4 forums this week, so hold on to your hats...

Someone in my Avatar Thread (http://www.shrapnelgames.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=23;t=007568) noticed that my old avatar was not 'compliant' to my established 'style'. (it was missing the reflection in the top left corner.) As you can see I have since fixed this 'error'. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif (btw I'm still churning out 8 new avatars a day, so don't be shy, drop by and take a peek.)

The Name Changing Thread (http://www.shrapnelgames.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=23;t=006550) Has set it's sights on passing the Babalon 5 Thread (http://www.shrapnelgames.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=23;t=004079) (for # of Posts) and they are catching up fast, realy fast. I think they have made close to 200 Posts in the past week. They are currently just 54 Posts away from catching up.

Perhaps Gt and the gang in the Bar Trek Thread (http://www.shrapnelgames.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=23;t=008810) can move over to the Babalon 5 thread and look for S'Katchoo's brain there. (they could use the extra Posts to keep this race interesting.) http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Tesco has created an interesting event on the #se4 channel at Gamesnet IRC. There will now be some 'Guest Speakers' to make things interesting. You can catch the Transcripts of the first 'Guest Speaker' (who it just so happeded was Fyron) HERE (http://www.shrapnelgames.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=23;t=009340). Hmmm I wonder who the next 'Speaker' will be,.. hmmmm do any of you have a guess?

Well, that's it for this weeks Mini-Lurk-Report. I hope you like it.

Have a Great Weekend, and Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

P.S. (and a worthy PS too,) go to The Trillian Empire (http://www.shrapnelgames.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=23;t=009335) to read a very good story by Clark. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon6.gif

Um, in these forums, DavidG's definition is correct (although that was just ONE ST nut and I hope there's not too many others like him).

But more generally, CANON (with one 'n') is a term borrowed from religion, meaning essentially 'accepted; according to doctrine'. Among us fans, it means 'that which is generally accepted to be a part of that fictional universe'.

In the SW universe, for example, the movies are dfinitely canon, so if you do a shipset with images from the movies, it's canon. If you take a few images from LucasArts computer games, most fans will still consider it canon. If you make up your own to 'fill' the set, it's non-canon.

It's no big deal, if you ask me.

PS - David, is your name pronounced the French (Davee) or the English way ?

If you really, really, really have something against this lurk-report thread, pitition to have it locked down. Come to think of it, a thread that actually tries to serve the community really is out of place here, maybe it should be locked down. (I can be so sarcastic sometimes.)

Ok, let's get the self serving part out of the way,.. my Avatar Thread (http://www.shrapnelgames.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=23;t=007568) is still in motion and I'm still posting 8 new avatars a day. Gt and the gang in the Bar Trek Thread (http://www.shrapnelgames.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=23;t=008810) are still having lots of fun and I'm sure they wouldn't mind if some of you lurkers dropped in and made a few Posts.

Thanks to Tesco, Wednesday nights on the #se4 channel at Gamesnet IRC are really starting to pick up. FYI next wednesday "your's truly" will be the 'Guest Speakers'. If you can't make it there next wednesday, or if you just want to get a head start, Tesco has created a new thread where you can ask me questions in advance,.. Just Go Here (http://www.shrapnelgames.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=23;t=009399)

This guy named Clark is still writing chapter after chapter of a great story, drop by the The Trillian Empire (http://www.shrapnelgames.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=23;t=009335) thread and read the adventure. Clark is evidently a very good writer, but I have just one question,.. why doesn't he have an Avatar? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Well, that's it for this weeks Mini-Lurk-Report. I hope you like it.

Taz reads the Lurk Notice below and quickly spins off...

...only to return moments later with arms full of construction equipment.
Dust fountains into the air and a loud whirring noise is heard as Taz constructs a huge Multi-tiered semi-circular amphitheater facing an extra-large 108" High-definition TV screen with built-in DVD player. Finishing the construction, he places a sign front and center before the TV screen:

,-----------------------
This spot reserved for
the Tazmanian Devil .
___________________

Taz then marks the DVD input: Only for use in playing the Lurk Report.

Satisfied that the preparations are complete, Taz carefully writes down the Sept 5th date and spins off into the distance...

Well, mlmbd it's sad to see the Lurk Report come to an 'official' end, but it sure was lots of fun. Thanks for the good times and I hope to catch you making the occasional post in the 'regular-realm'. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Have a great day, and maybe we'll catch you in the #se4 chanel at gamesnet one day.

Bear in mind that Fyron is a mere infant (he's just about to turn 19, after all (http://www.spaceempires.net/home/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=112)). He can't be expected to know ancient history like ELO. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

I'm sure you've heard "Don't Bring Me Down", yes?

No?

Kids these days have no sense of history.

You had no sense of history when you were a kid and the older people said the exact same thing. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

I am, more or less, still a kid (see profile). I just apparently don't use emoticons enough.

Sad truth is, people in general have no sense of history. But that's a whole other rant.

He had a student see him and ask "what is the cold war" we had been doing this for weeks but it had obviously not got through to said student. He started to explain: "Well the cold war started at the end of World War Two when.."
Student: " Ahh, excuse me but what was World War Two?"
True story, happened yesterday.

People, in general, have no sense of anything! They haven't got a clue about astronomy or geography or physics or math!

Somebody asked a friend of mine, "where in the solar system is the galaxy?"
Another person I know thought that the reason the moon goes through its phases is because it's always the earth casting a shadow on the moon, just like in a lunar eclipse.
A coworker of mine thought that Singapore is inside China.
Another person I talked to thought that gravity is caused by the earth's rotation.

I heard a few years ago, that China was considering building Singapore Franchises inside their borders. They figured that since the thing was so neat, sterile, and self contained, that they could just commission the Singapore government to replicate a few of them.

I dont know if it ever got off the ground, or if it ever will.. but the idea is.. odd.

what's the singapore franchise?

well, some of that is the school systems fault. when i was in school, what was covered was the roman empire, middle ages, renasciance, US history, canadian history. the first three are in the order we studied them, the Last two in the order of priority. i live in canada. the rest of the world was covered as an afterthought.

When my Father was my age he was working in defense and I was three years old and full of bees. I, however, am single and without children, the youngest at my workplace, and tend to hang out with people younger than myself. I only recently got away from the 'party' scene and don't feel any claim to maturity just yet.

My hairline has started it's slow march back when I was ninteen. I'm just glad 'thinning on top' dosen't run in my family. We do, however, have a tendancy toward wicked Widow's Peaks.
